"Or do you like to go on an adventure? I pack light so tore 20 pages out my book and headed off to the beach before breakfast. But I tore badly and lost the corner so making a few guesses at the bottom of every page. But it’s fun and how I generally like to live ![]() I rarely plan anything and over the decades have become a master of making it up as I go along. Anita on the other hand plans everything, she will even have a plan of what should be planned when and a list of lists that need making. Cal

But it’s fun and how I generally like to live ![]() Yep, the planning is all part of the fun of a holiday for me. I love lists and maps. I can be spontaneous but like to make the most of our time away.

"You ripped a book?! Straight to hell with you It wasn’t the flipping bible ! All books are like the bible - sacred and profound (well not all books obviously ![]() That’s the problem though isn’t it? - that all books are kinda sacred? This means I’ve got literally hundreds of books I can’t bring myself to get rid of - and we’ll be moving to a smaller house soonish. Also means I have to finish a book once I’ve started it - even if it’s crap. But tearing a book deliberately when you’re over 5 years old? Sacrilegious! X

"Omg you ripped pages out of a book, because you couldn't be arsed to take the full book ![]() Could be arsed it just wasn’t particularly practical. Sometimes it’s the only way a good book gets read! I used to feel a bit bad about it till I saw wild campers and climbers do it regularly to stay light , I think the ends warrant the means!

"You ripped a book?! Straight to hell with you It wasn’t the flipping bible ! All books are like the bible - sacred and profound (well not all books obviously ![]() No not all books are sacred. I used to think this but mass produced paperbacks/hardbacks are in no way sacred. They are just another product. The sacred thing is a hangover when books weren't mass produced and were hand made. I love books and have loads but I still have clear outs. If you can't bear just to chuck them then donate them to charity.

All books are like the bible - sacred and profound (well not all books obviously ![]() Give them away , start a book exchange , keeping them is mean. I’ll leave these pages for a fellow explorer, often leave great books in hostels too

I actually plan in detail , make lists and maps, always check out the experiences section of AirBnB for interesting ideas, the research is a good part of the build up. But save space for unexpected adventures and don’t always follow the plan ![]()

" Also means I have to finish a book once I’ve started it - even if it’s crap. " Missed this part of your post. I used to do that - slog through a book if I wasn't enjoying it. Not now. Best thing is put it to one side and start another one. Hopefully the other one is better and you'll be glad you're not reading the rubbish one (which can then donated/given away).

"Letting go and giving away things you perceive as valuable but are clutter is often good for the soul ![]() ![]() I absolutely agree. (The important things in life aren't things.) But by destroying the book, you've stopped somebody else from gaining the knowledge and experience contained therein, therefore ending the use of the book. Plus, it was HC-B, so a few extra lashes for that alone!
