Any recommendations?

I’m just drinking a nice pale ale called Jamestown. brewed by Thornbridge.

A delightful light IPA at a solid strength of 5.9%

only once have I found amber Guinness which is amazing

+1 on Fursty Ferret! Nice malty ale and always in stock at Co-Op. Speckled Hen / Crafty Hen's really grown on me over lockdown, and the ABV's bang for your buck

Salopian Oracle is up there. My number 1 used to be called lowswater gold and was brewed behind a gastro pub called kirkstile inn in the lakes until it sold its soul to a bigger brewery.

Lived in the Lakes for a while and drank a lot of Bluebird...brewed in Coniston. I’ve never seen it anywhere else sadly.

If you haven't already, try Vocation brewery, I particularly like their Heart and Soul , and Life and Death.

Titanic Plum Porter , Phoenix Wobbly Bob, Oakham Citra, Empire White Lion, and Abbeydale Moonshine all work for me

You should move to Derby, there's a pub called The Brunswick just an amble round the corner that's got it's own micro brewery. I couldn't even begin to start naming some of the wonderous stuff that is availabe...

Get yourself over to Hebden Bridge and buy some vocation brewery ale. Can't beat the bread and butter ale. They have loads to choose from though and they are all delicious mate

Innes & Gunn probably my first choice.

Also enjoy various ales from Wychwood and Shepherd Neame.

There's also a nice Heather beer called Fraoch, I occasionally enjoy...

To be honest I think the best summer drink I have ever had was Snake bite by Wychwood but they only did it once for a few months...

I’m generally the dark stuff, Porters & Stouts. Had an amazing Manchester Tart stout by Northern Monk recently. I’d definitely recommend it.

Agree with this. Had some gorgeous ones in Bristol. Also still dreaming of a Cappuccino Ale I had in copious amounts in a bar in Euston. It was really, really good.

Ale or whiskey for me Docks beers in grimsby have a nice selection but other than that I'm a fan of brew dogs and bervertowns, as well as the doom bar and stuff like that will always try new stuff though, don't want to miss out on the good stuff

I think they've dumbed the taste down over the last few years, it used to be much richer and darker tasting and you're right the last time I tried it again more recently it was more like "off"Ribena.

Although I like fruity flavours, too. I agree about the Titanic Plum Porter - used to be nicer, abd there are better ones out there.

Hubby likes fursty ferret and old empire but his favourite is tangle foot if you've not tried it give it ago it's very hoopy xx

Locally we are well blessed with some wonderful independent breweries. My favourites are Bathams Best Bitter, Black Country Ales BFG, Purity Ubu, Holdens Golden Glow and Sarah Hughes Ruby Mild.

If anyone who prefers the stouts and porters, Sainsbury’s do a lovely London Porter For about £1.80 a bottle, very nice too!

Like you said personal tastes. I’ve had more real ales than I can remember beer festival and small breweries. But for an every day beer nothing wrong with a cold Doombar it’s hundred times better than Euro fizz lagers that I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole.

Given a choice between Doombar and a lager I will shrug my shoulders and leave the establishment to seek out decent beer elsewhere.

I tried Cairngorm brewery last year quite by chance as nothing was open so had to hit the garage off licence. Tried Trade Winds first and it was amazing, have tried them all now and truly there isn't one I wouldn't highly recommend.

Great Newsom brewery is local to me, Galivanting is lovely as is. Prickle back hodgkin and Sleckdust for golden, blonde and IPA. But their whole range is highly recommended. Wold Top is another local Brewery that's solid lovely and consistent.

Neck Oil and Gamma Ray are two of my faves (Beavertown)

Both brilliant beers and probably the only U.K. brewery I can think if that can compete with US for modern pales and IPA’s.

Sierra Nevada beers are my favourites though, the bourbon cask aged torpedo is a bit pricey at around £20 for a 750ml bottle but really nice.

Normal Torpedo though is excellent, as is the Hazy Days (US strength, not that shite Tesco do that’s sessionable). Their normal, bog standard pale is still awesome after 40 years though and a good bench mark which most beers still can’t beat on a hot day.

Lagunitas do some decent beers, as do Deschutes, Ninkasi and Founders.

For U.K. brewers would turn to Thornbridge who do some great beers - Green Mountain, Jaipur and Jamestown all superb.

I’m really old school when it comes to ale. No real interest in any craft beer as normal IPA, Greene King, London Pride (Chelsea ale!) or Adnams etc, hits the spot.

However - recently found the Howling Hop brewery & tank bar in Hackney Wick. Fuck me! A pint of their IPA straight from the huge tank behind the bar - wow! So fresh, fruity, tasty. Refreshing . Converted now - it’s a 40 mile bike ride though.
