After a long conversation with my brother about loaning money two friends he looked at me as if I was crazy my friends I will loan any amount of money because I know they will always pay me back is this weird for everybody else ?

If you ever lend money to friends and family you should always be prepared to lose that money permanently and sometimes also the connection with them too.

Im always wary except with a very select few who i have no qualms with whatsoever and have never had any issues at all.

Its a case of lessons learned by getting my fingers burned sadly.

I don't loan money to anyone. If a friend or family member needs money and I can afford to help them, then I'll give it to them with absolutely zero expectation of getting it back. That way I don't lose any friendships over it.

I agree you should always be prepared to lose the money I must be very lucky because I have never lost a friend or any money loan to a friend

Previous experience has told me to be very careful, never lend out a sum of money you'd be prepared to lose.

Sadly a lot of people are unreliable.

I have done and it was a bit of a shock not to get it back, as it left me short then. So lesson learnt, but I would still help out, if I could get away with not needing or expecting it back.

Lent a family member money before and they never paid it back, £4K gone, total let done, that was money for IVF with my partner at the time, me and the family member never speak anymore, not that I care as he’s an @@@hole, people will always take advantage of you, very rare to find people you trust, I’d rather give advice than money

I know what it's like to be Rock bottom financially ,not a nice place at all ,so anytime l can help someone l know financially l will, if l can afford to do this at the particular time but it's not always the case as it depends on the amount .

made that mistake 2 years ago for a friend even knocked off some money let them have it cheaper but never got what was owing always some excuse and now don’t see them at all it’s like they avoid you because they owe you some money

My motto is 20 quid tops, if it gets repaid, then I'm quite willing to lend them some on another occasion and even more. If they renege on the deal then they can swivel as far as I'm concerned

Thats not true though the courts have thousands of issues with money being lent by friends and not paid back so "always" isn't true.

Only lend what you can afford not to get back as often no legal agreements are drawn up in this sort of loan.

It varies on the circumstances but I’ve never said no, I won’t see someone struggle, stress over feeding themselves or their kids.
