The Americans are releasing genetically modified mosquitos into the wild.

Good or bad idea ?

Apparently they are all makes. Only female mosquitoes bite. I read that these genetically modified males will mate with females and the females will die before they can lay eggs..

In my amateur opinion a few females will mate with the GM males but survive and breed super mosquitoes with immunity to the GM males..

Only time will tell

Yes I read that too Tom. Apparently they've already let some loose in Brazil.

I think it's wrong and just the tip of the iceberg.

About 18 months ago I read they had spliced pig genes with humans.

Doesn't bear thinking about.

They let killer bees out of a lab once and myxomatosis in rabbits. If you ever see myxi in a rabbit it's not a great sight. You will never forget seeing those eyes.

And I read that GM crops bred to be resistant to pests and disease lose their immunity after about ten years of cropping and pests and diseases mutate

In the words of John Hammond.... Nature will always find away.

Mess with her methods of control and boom, Mrsa, Antibiotic resistant superbugs etc etc l.

For 2 millennia we’ve died, leave shit along or face masks and “Demolition Man” style hellos will be the only future we’ll every know..

The problem I have with this is it allowed human to expand into unpopulated areas pushing wildlife to the brink and causing more pandemics such as covid-19 instead of mutating mosquitoes would it not be more preferable to allow some wild spaces in this world we do not need to continue exploiting every corner of the planet we need to start educating ourselves as a species and stop over populating.

Just my view

I hate the things with a passion, we get eaten alive all summer living in a swamp as we do, but I suspect they are useful in the food chain, they wouldnt be here otherwise. What are all the bats/birds going to eat instead.

Yes Mosquitoes and gnats are a big part of the food chain around the world and more dangerous in some parts, they could outlive human beings along with cockroaches, Ants etc they,ve been about for millions of years.
