Working from home

Other than the benefits of perving on fab and having a little bit more flex in terms of day planning, does anyone actually prefer working from home?

Personally I find it way less productive (as you can see) and don’t like the fact that the house is now also the office.

That said, I have once or twice caught myself having a little lunchtime perv and play which is a welcome release sometimes during a stressful day

I like the balance of both the office and home.

At home I can get up later, exercise midday, do things around the house, etc.

Then if I need a change I go in. It's the best of both worlds really.

I usually get shouted at for being on mute and trying to speak.. haven’t experienced a shocked response of “your not on mute!!” Yet.... haha

Ive been doing it since March and still find some days less productive then being in the office.

That said i dont miss getting up super early to commute and im better off financially as im not going to dinner or the pub.

Still miss the old world though

I don't like the lack of ability to leave the workplace physically behind. We don't have a spare room and due to disability, I need a specialist chair to sit on, which I've had to install in my living room. Basically, I've lived in my living room since March and it's fucking claustrophobic. I'd much prefer to have to get in the car, sit in a bit of a queue and go to the centre. However, it's still closed, other than for the odd trip in to retrieve paperwork etc.

I also miss the general chatter of other people, bumping into people in the corridor etc. I'm a very sociable person so I really miss that.

We had our 3yo at home with us from March to June too (the busiest part of the year) and so that nearly sent us insane, trying to work both at the same time, teach and speak to students across the world and attend important meetings etc. We just thank heavens she's a good child!

Not sure if that's all too serious, but that's it

I work from home since February and regard it as a mixed blessing. I enjoy the extra hour of sleep in the morning, but I miss the structure the travel to and from the office provides.

Without that structure there is a danger that I glide between work and private Internet use without any change and sit in front of the computer the whole day.

But now the breaks are better, I can perv and fab without any danger of getting caught in an open plan office.

I can only dream of this. I've worked all the way through this. Anyway, I wouldn't be able to get a 5 ton milling machine through my front door.

Working from home since March and hope it continues - we’ve been asked if we want to go back to the office in the future , the vast majority are to remain working from home

We've worked too, thanks, just from our living room. Our workplace is closed, but I'd happily have worked in it for the duration. I hate working at home, but I have no choice. Please don't confuse having to work from home with

a) satisfaction with the situation

b) slacking

We've worked incredibly hard since March to total reinvent what we do for online. We've had no holiday, apart from the odd day tagged onto a weekend. I'm off having had surgery (been off a week) and that's the longest period off since Christmas. And guess what? I'm still answering WhatsApp messages to work.

Sorry. I didn't mean that to sound crass! Sounds like you run your own business. Fair play to you. Personally I wish this was all over, I'm £300 a month down because I've lost my night shift allowance having been put back on days.

No, I don't run my own business, but I do run my department on my own, as my assistant was (and is) furloughed. That wasn't my choice. Now that I'm off for the surgery, no-one is run my department. My manager is doing the essentials, but all planning for September will have stopped. I'm lying here, frankly bored out of my tree and unsure why it's OK to surf the Web recreationally but not for work. I could easily do my job right now, but the consultant signed me off and so HR says no. Just feels like I'm wasting my time and building up a massive workload to return to.

Sorry you have lost money as a result of the pandemic, that's not good

I moved in to a new role 2 weeks before lockdown

Working for last 5 months in my bedroom (at a desk), learning a new role, new deliverables has been tough at times. I have been massively busier than my last role and the work is a challenge

More hours in, less time for other things so non-fab interests have had to put a hold on

The alternative is to go back to an even bigger shit storm, so considering it only exercises my thumb joints..... Yes, I know its wrong, but that's what happens when you furlough someone's assistant

I've worked mainly from home for the past twenty years (when I'm not travelling). It works for me and definitely makes things easier and more flexible with my daughter. I do really love the office in London when I go in and I don't like the fact my work is always with me at home. So much so that I built myself a cabin in the garden to work from a few years back to help keep work out of my home space.....

Nippy, I need a garden cabin! Once the kitchen is done, we'll have to save up. Again

I've seen a colleague working from a very elaborate garden cabin. We desperately need the kitchen doing because it's falling to bits, and that's not cheap. But the next project will be Operation Garden Cabin

This. My gf and I were both working from our small flat for months... both genuinely busy right through lockdown. When I started going back into the office in June (only a few of us, who live close enough to walk or cycle, and sufficiently few to be able to distance), it was great to leave home and go somewhere else. Also great to see other humans who weren’t my gf or local shopkeepers!

But I still work from home sometimes, if it suits. I like the new flexibility.
