If you heard a loud bang downstairs in the night?

I live on my own with my son and dog and generally feel pretty safe in the house. The dog has a bark that sounds a lot bigger and scarier than she is and she wakes up and barks if she hears a noise.

I heard a loud bang downstairs and the dog went bonkers. Security light at the back had come on on the sensor.

I picked up the big photo frame on my bedside table and rang my mum so she was on the phone while I went to look, I let the dog go downstairs first and followed her.

It was just a photo frame that had come off the wall thankfully.

Curious to what peoples reaction-especially those who live on their own, would be?

It happened to me. It was 5 men who literally locked my door off the hinges.

I did what any sane person would do which is hide under the duvet.

I now always keep my phone next to the bed.

I live on ma own in a top floor flat, there's all kinds of noises going off round here pretty much 24/7, I tend not to take much notice anymore after 7 years

Thing is, what can you do? Even if it’s a knife wielding burglar, if I went downstairs and smacked the shit out of them with my crowbar chances are I’d be the one getting done for it. Wave my man bits at them?

I’d wake my wife u and send her down but seeing as at the moment our bedroom is on the ground floor I’d send her across.

I wouldn’t really!!!

I’d shit myself and go and see who had come in through our unlocked doors.

Lol we have 2 bars hidden in plain site, one in bedroom and other near front door. Sounds like we live in a shady shithole lol but we've learnt the hard way. Chancers will have a go if they feel like they want to make there way in.

Luckily I have a ridiculously protective German Shepherd cross who will take your nuts off if you even look in her direction.

I do wonder how I would feel if I didn't have her though.

We have a panic button by the bed which sets the alarm off so if i knew we had uninvited guests i'd go for that. If i wasn't sure then i'd go to the top of the stairs, switch on the hall light and wait for a minute or two and listen and then of i heard nothing i'd go downstairs to check it out.

I would go and have a look,
