Anyone had braces or anything to sort out bent teeth put in in later life?

My teeth are generally good but the bottom front two are a bit misaligned and there’s a dull ache.

Ah the clique arrive with their sarcastic comments

I was looking for experiences from wearers before I go to a dentist so I could glean information about what it’s like.

You keep the forums to yourself though. So sad.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

You had four answers, two of which were reasonable and one was sarcastic.

Any perception of a clique is at least partially in your head - it's a "general" forum, so variety of reposnse is surely to be expected...?

I'm sorry if I offended you OP. It wasn't my intention. I've never had braces and I it genuinely made me think of something else

You can get ‘invisible’ ones - My sis did this when she was 21 and what a difference even though I thought looked ok before.

It’s actually an orthodontist, expensive though.

Braces can be quite sexy on women, don’t know if women think the same about them on guys ?

Considered a bit of straightening at the bottom, might still do , wish they could just sort it with a pair of pluses rather than months of braces, tend to look after them more the older we get !

There’s a few girls in here have lovely teeth, or so I thought until someone showed me BeautyPlus....

I got braces just as I turned 18 and I had them on for two and a half years. One of my front teeth completely turned outwards and I had an overbite. If your teeth aren't too bad you might not have to have them on for too long.

I had no problems with them. I'd cut my gums on the wire and sometimes the tabs that hold the wire would loosen and I'd have to go back to the dentist to get it fixed so for that reason I'd probably go for the invisible ones as they seem very straight forward and less complicated.

And one thing I will say is make sure to wear your retainer when you get your braces off. I never wore my bottom one and only wore my top retainer at night for the first few weeks and now my bottom teeth are wonky and I have a small gap inbetween my two front teeth.

I lost my retainer a few weeks ago and my teeth are already starting to move around because I'm not wearing it at night, and I'm 27 now so you think my teeth would just stay where they are. So, I would make sure you have a back up retainer just incase. I'll be waiting a few weeks for mine to arrive.

Liverpool

I had braces as a teenager for a few years and while it wasn't fun with the pain, cleaning after eating and mangled cheeks when the wires needed trimming, it was totally worth it and I'm very happy with my teeth now.

LBC will probably tell my off after reading her comment but I only wore my retainer for the 6 months constantly and 6 months just at night that they said and then when they said to carry on wearing it a few times a week I stopped wearing it. I had some slight movement due to how they line up but nothing that noticeable and once they settled they've stayed as they are. I didn't want to be fighting against it for the rest of my life. My teeth still look pretty perfect, I can just feel with my tongue where one of the bottom ones has moved back a bit as the tooth above it presses on it when I bite.

Our daughter had braces as an adult. Worth it in her opinion but wearing a retainer at night is a life long thing for her at least. Not sure if I'd be happy with that.

Thanks to those of you who actually had something constructive to say - appreciate your sincere replies that were not snide.

I’m going to see my dentist and discuss my options.

Northampton Somewhere

My friend had braces fitted in her 40's to correct a gap between her front teeth and a slight over bite. I think she had them on for almost 2 years and it cost her nearly 4k. She's happy with the results.

I have a relative who is a dental nurse and has a brace - I imagine she's had some kind of discount - but I get the impression it isn't cheap.

It is, however, working well according to her and she hasn't had any discomfort issues.

As to the tooth pain, definitely talk to a dentist.
