When you start a thread do you reply to every poster on it?

I must admit I am the sort that just lets the thread pootle along in its own way and if people want to have a chat and let it go off topic then so be it.

Does this look lazy to you, as I don't want posters to think I ignore them?

I think along the lines as I do not see the thread as mine once on the forum.

Did our first thread the other day and really wasnt sure bow to handle that. Especially when missed a few and it kind of rolled along by itself.

Was fun hearing all the stuff people came up with though

I try to reply to everyone if possible. My threads are fairly mundane so it's not too onerous a task

I do.

That’s why I don’t start many threads.

I don’t expect prr e pole to reply to me unless I say something that captures their interest really but when ever I’ve started my own I just can’t bring myself to leave anyone out.

There’s no right or wrong way to do it, it’s entirely up to the host

I very rarely get replies

Some do, some don’t simple as that really

Most don’t allow messages from my age anyway

I always reply because it’s the polite thing to do

Just my preference

I'll reply to the first few posts to keep the thread near the top of the tree.

If it gets to a certain number of posts it can then start to take on a life of it's own. I'll still reply to some if there is something in particular I want to say.

I'll not reply to some posts so, at a later time, if it drops off the first page I can go back and bump it without it looking like it's being bumped

I may check on it the next day to see if there's any new postings which I want to reply to (again bump without looking like a bump).

I love it though when a thread comes together and starts to go off at tangents.

I don't start threads anymore.

When I did do threads I wanted to encourage discussion and lots of different opinions.

I felt my threads were like a lively discussion in a pub. If I replied to every post it felt like I would be hogging the conversation so I just replied to a few posts, like I would in a 'real life' pub/ group discussion. I wanted everyone to join in and chat freely.

On the very odd occasion I post a thread, I try to reply to everyone, but also like to see it take course, if it's "successful".

Totally depends on your personality I think. I respond to every single person on my threads, either on the thread or via pm. I also love it when people start messaging each other, not the really long ‘I want to fuck you’ ‘look at me’ shows- as all they are are attention seeking-but all genuine replies and mini conversations

It’s a difficult one. I usually do but then it fills up the thread really quick. Then if I reply to a few I feel like I should reply to the others! It’s actually quite stressful when you think about it

I do struggle with this too. They've taken the time to comment in my thread so I feel I should respond, but then it feels a bit narcissistic for the thread to be heaving with my own comments. So I usually comment back on multiple comments, like, "great opinions so far"...

Or "what are you lot smoking?"

There and to the left a bit

I take the view that once a thread is out there it's no longer "mine" but the forum's and will dip in and out like I would any other thread, letting it take it's own course.

It doesn't matter to me if it gets to 175 posts or 17 either, it's not a popularity contest so I don't see the need to continually bump it by responding to others.

I actually find it quite self-centred and not quite as inclusive as they purport when you look at some (not all) threads that are 75% the OP replying with a couple of meaningless words or an emoji - just let the thread take it's own shape or flow.

Ultimately it may depend on the thread, some call for responses to the people that post, others not at all - so do what you want to do, and what works best for you.

But, but, but, I'm sorry but I can't not say this. GM, you just told the self centred people to let the thread go and then in the next paragraph you said to do what you want to do and what works for you.... That's the fab forums summed up for me, "do what you like as long as I like it"....

For me it depends what the threads about. Some I feel warrant a reply to all and others I let run. If they go off on a tangent then that's half the fun.

Not what I said at all - you've chosen to read it that way...but if it's touched a nerve *shrugs*

I very specifically used the words "some (not all)" to qualify my comment and then qualified it further still with what followed.

As for "That's the fab forums summed up for me, "do what you like as long as I like it"..." - nowhere did I say I give the slightest stuff personally how others choose to use the forums and I honestly don't, if I don't like it I avoid - I made an observation and nothing more....

Depends what kind of thread it is.. I used to post about subjects I wanted to discuss so often did set aside time to see it as a conversation and replied to every post.

If it was more lighthearted I wouldn’t as they take on a life of their own..

sometimes it’s nice to speak to everyone as often many get no replies to anything and you get to converse with more people than you usually would in private. It’s nice to discuss others points of view.

Like I said, completely depends on the topic
