"Tbh I do love looking at Rivers but it doesn't mean I want to be silly " I thought how sad a world it must be if contemplation and peaceful moments are immediately interpreted as an intention to administer self harm.

"Would I notice? Yes probably, I naturally observe things as I go about my life. Would I take action? That very much depends, someone (especially a stranger) staring at a lake could just as easily be lost in thought about happy things as they could be contemplating something drastic and unless there were other signs or circumstances I wouldn't want to disturb those possibly peaceful moments - I may stand back and observe a while longer just to be sure though "

"I do appreciate that quite often it can be difficult to understand someone's feelings and intentions unless they are blatantly obvious And some may appreciate being checked on and some may not If I was on the other side of the situation not sure how I would react "

"To those of you who have been brave enough to reach out to someone in this situation, thank you When feeling low reading stories about how people intervened can give hope Though its not a burden I would want to place on anyone" Hope all is ok Op. I do people watch a bit so hope I would probably notice if something seemed off with someone. I do find myself watching out for older people on sticks at the moment and checking they make it across roads and places they are getting too, just because I remember my Grandpa being wobbly on his. He was quite fiercly independant so I wouldnt automatically dive in unless needed, but a smile and a hello never seems to hurt.

"I don't spend enough time out and about to see things like that I don't think. I'm either at the bus stop, on the bus, at work or at home. I do think unless it's very very obvious, people are afraid to approach others as you don't know how they may react to you. I'm far more comfortable dealing with a lost dog. However if someone is clearly upset, then yes, I have approached before now. Ended up taking her for a hot chocolate and we chatted for a couple of hours." its acts of kindness like that, that can literally save a life! bless you miss peach
