I just can't turn my mind off.

I remember asking my partner what he thinks about before bed and he said nothing. I pushed it further and he genuinely doesn't think of anything and is fast asleep within two minutes of his head hitting the pillow.

I can't turn off the voice in my head and it can take me hours to fall asleep sometimes. I talk about all kinds of shite. The good, the bad and the ugly.

I'm amazed when you ask some people what they're thinking about and they say "nothing". My ex would say it all the time and I became convinced she was a terrorist or art thief or something as she must've been planning something she didn't want to talk about.

But no, some people are genuinely able to not think about anything at all. That must be heaven. She always slept so much better than me too.

I remember reading recently that some people only think with images and not words?! And some just think with single words and not complete sentences. My mind was blown when I discovered this.

Yes, I saw that, Richard Herring was saying he has no visual memory. If you say "think of an apple" he just can't picture one in his mind's eye. He was in his early 50s when he first realised this!

I'm the same with sleep, I've found I need to focus on something before I can sleep. Think about a film or book, or just replay something in my head. Otherwise it's just too noisy.

The only thing that keeps me awake is myself, staying up to late. Even when I know I should go to bed I don't. I look at my phone, carry on watching TV etc.

Every night nearly is the same and I always promise an early night the next day. Guess what? I end up repeating myself.

Once I'm in bed I hardly ever have issues going to sleep. Always within a couple of minutes. If I'm still awake I do some breathing exercises from Yoga, I'll be asleep in no time.

Anyway, I'm definitely going to bed now. Promise.
