Just watching the service on the BBC, from the Royal Memorial Arboretum, it makes me very proud to be British.

I could hear the noise of the flypast as well because I live very nearby.

We will remember them.

Its a very serene place is the arboretum. I've been to the militant cemeteries in France but that is something else.

Very proud of their sacrifice.

I'll be blunt

I cannot be proud of war

The poppy Bless you all is a symbol from the 1st world war telling the world lest we forget the utter horrors of war let it not happen again

Well humans forgot

Vj day to my knowledge is where Japan finally surrendered

Can I be proud that the USA killed millions with atomic power

No I cannot

No one wins any war both sides lose a war ends because of human life lost on both sides and innocent non fighting humans die on all sides

An innocent human is an innocent human despite them being born on land where its leaders are criminal

Vj day and all the pomp chest puffing and jingoism provokes nothing other than sadness that humanity has learned zero that it values and celebrates the best killers as apossed to bowing its head regretting all the suffering and death of innocent parties

I think whilst we split humanity into tribes and suggest one tribe is more worthy of pride than another I suggest there is no victory

Them and us or us

I feel individual even groups of humans can be identified as good or not so good however to bestow an assessment to a whole nation is simply wrong

The USA devastated Japan and ended a war

They now are led by an evil nazi ? Proud ??

Japan devastated most of Asia and the pacific before it got beaten back, unit 731 and what they did in Nanking are interesting reading and show why imperial Japan had to be defeated. They were caught up in a fanatical mindset at the time which is difficult for us to comprehend 75 years later, same as with Nazi Germany.

Nothing wrong with pacifism, but now that you know of the horrific abuses that both the Japanese and Germans were inflicting on their populations and the Countries they invaded. Surely you understand why we sometimes have to use force to help other nations and their people

North West

Remembrance isn't about glorifying war. It is about remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that oppressing forces may be stopped. We remember brave people who did not come home, as well as the brave people who endured the horrors, did come home and have lived with the consequences ever. If anyone thinks that the generation who fought were not traumatised, because they did not speak of their experiences, then they are sadly mistaken. Just watch the eyes and the faces of the elderly veterans interviewed today - they remain traumatised to this day.

One could also say made possible by 2 huge explosions and millions of innocent deaths

One could easily suggest that we have excellent freedoms but those freedoms have come from a fight against the successive leaders of this country by it's people and those positive influences across the world and not that the USA killed more humans than the other side

Who is to know what freedoms 2020 humans would have now if circumstances were different, no one

Should I be grateful that the French successfully invaded the UK? Probably lol

Proud to be British beause of what our forces went through, to bring an end to the cruelty imposed by Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany. Proud of the sacrifices they made, their bravery. Proud of how the Veterans were treated today (I wish all our veterans were looked after better, but that isnt what my post was about.) Proud that the Memorial Arboretum has gone from waste gravel quarry to how it looked today.

Proud of the service that was solemn and respectful.

Proud of our serving troops.

Proud.
