Does anyone work in payroll?

And can give me some advice please?

Basically at my company you get paid by the day, regardless of hours worked. And as I was aware, the holiday regulations have changed to be an average of what your earnings are across the year. So if you work overtime you basically get more holiday pay than your normal rate.

Having put many weekends in when I am not contractually obliged to, surely I should get more money than my flat day rate? Right?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to speak with your finance department. This is a swingers site

.. anyway.. your working day has to have a start and finishing time. Anything over is overtime . If your contracted to work 8 hours and you work 12 and only get paid fir 8 then that’ needs addressed.

If you work non contracted weekends , which are your rest days then you are entitled to Rest day payments., it starts getting more complicated if you obliged to work and don’t get sufficient notice or when working on a public holiday.. go see your finance manager

40 hours is my normal anything above is paid at overtime rate ( time and a half .) 22 days holiday. Suppose it would be different depenfs if you get paid for your overtime or your hours accumulate days off.

Remember you are not necessarily entitled to contractual overtime payments, unless stated in your contract. I am contracted to do 37.5hrs a week, between 8-8 Mon to Fri, but the frequent extra hours I work are unpaid and I don't get extra holiday. Most of the extra time is because the workload simply doesn't fit into 37.5hrs and so to meet deadlines etc, I have to work however long to get the job done. I don't get OT or lieu time and no extra holiday. If the company specifies I have to work extra hours or at the weekend, for example, then I am entitled to the same amount of time back in lieu. The company would say me doing extra hours to meet deadlines is my "choice" and not mandated by the company, hence no lieu. I'm currently doing 3 people's jobs, so go figure how I'm meant to do it in 37.5hrs.

But, I like my job, I love my colleagues (fuck, I'm even married to one) and I adore my students. I put the extra hours in to get the outcomes for the students and at the moment, to make sure we have students, and therefore jobs, going forward. I'm weirdly grateful I'm being worked into the ground, because at least I have a decently paid job.
