Oh gosh! It can mean so much. For me it means being in touch with my surroundings. Nature, the stars, my dreams, being in touch with what I can't see but knowing it's there. Feeling and seeing everything around me, really looking and paying attention, hearing what speaks when it has no voice or when it speaks in a different way.

I'm not sure if that makes any sense though.

If you asked me am I spiritual I'd say no, as in my definition it's tied in with organised religion.

If you asked if I was in touch with and aware of nature I'd say yes.

Spiritual as a common definition is too churchified for a heathen like me .

Probably something like that, yes. I'm not a massively emotional person, though S would disagree. He, however, is DEFINITELY not emotional! I have emotional attachment to things he can't understand. For example, I recently worked on my day's leave to ensure a student who would otherwise be sent home to a war zone got his results dealt with quickly, because the mother in me couldn't abide the idea of him being homeless and on the streets of the CAR. S was also involved in the same case, but he deals with it purely on the facts "he'll just have to wait or go back" rather than pushing and pulling strings to get things done. I do things like that all the time. I think I digress. None of that seems to be spiritual, but it is emotional response to something I should perhaps just be objective about?

I've never felt overwhelmed or tearful etc in an opera or a play etc and music generally doesn't invoke emotions in me, bar one or two with specific words.

It is unusual (I think) that music doesn’t ever evoke emotion in you. But not weird!

Don't ask me why or what brings me to this conclusion but I kinda feel like we do have other lives, but when you kinda tap into your soul, love the world and believe in the spirit, come to accept there is a higher "source" almost, only then do you die for the last time and become a peaceful energy. A bit like the biggest most relaxing satisfying sigh ever. That's when your work is done, when you reach full acceptance and peace.

Yes love, but more than that. For me I guess it's not being selfish when it comes to love.

'For the greater good' if that makes sense. Like with me and all my recent shizzle, I chose to go with the inner peace option even tho it broke me, but I feel that was for the greater good.

For me spiritual means awareness

An awareness of self, knowing me my faults and owning them, celebrating 'me'

Awareness of the environment, natural world/weather...Noticing subtle changes and using it for my own ends, meditation and losing myself in my senses.

Awareness of others, an empathist, we can sympathise but we don't often empathise, to try and understand what it feels like to walk in anothers shoes is truly a gift.

An awareness that we are one small part of something bigger....we're pretty insignificant tbh, that should be humbling

And an awareness of needing to let go, negativity is draining, hanging onto the past is pointless, by living in the past you forget to live in the now. To moving forward is all you can do and being your best self

An awareness of your place in thd world, understand that no creature is below you, every life has a place and a purpose.

My gut digests food it's not really good at any kind of thinking

I do however experience the release of a multitude of chemicals from my endocrine systems some are sensed by the effects they have upon my digestive tract

Then use that data in my brain to rationalise a conclusion

Beyond that I can stand on a mountain or a beach and experience positive chemical releases of well being

I cannot personally subscribe to any definition of spiritual that could have any hint of super natural superstition God, ghosts or ethereal soul

My personal take is simple awareness of self others and our surroundings

For those that get itchy toes with the word spiritual because of links to religion, I recommend reading Sam Harris. He is a prominent atheist, neuroscientist and philosopher. His book Waking Up is subtitled A guide to spirituality without religion.

For me it’s when my heart rules my head ... I’m a mechanical engineer in my job .. If something won’t go turn , it’s because something is broken . Locate and replace the broken bit , and it all starts to turn again .. It’s factual . No matter how much I wish it in my heart of hearts it ain’t going to go again till I fix it .. Spiritually is how I deal more with relationships of the human kind .. I let more of my heart decide . Ain’t no good trying to deal with a person like one would a machine ..My spirituality deals with variables so much better than my head does ..
