"Spirit means ghost .. spiritual : ghost love ? " The word spirt in both Greek and Hebrew is also the same word for wind and breath.

"Oh gosh! It can mean so much. For me it means being in touch with my surroundings. Nature, the stars, my dreams, being in touch with what I can't see but knowing it's there. Feeling and seeing everything around me, really looking and paying attention, hearing what speaks when it has no voice or when it speaks in a different way. I'm not sure if that makes any sense though. " Thats the thing, I don't think it needs to make sense to anyone but you.

"To me, it means something I'm probably rubbish at tapping into. I'm a scientist married to a scientist. We don't really seem to feel like other people do, for example, if listening to music, or walking into an elaborate cathedral or viewing a great work of art. We're probably weird, but hey " That’s interesting. So do you see spirituality as connecting emotionally rather that rationally?

I'm not a massively emotional person, though S would disagree. He, however, is DEFINITELY not emotional! I have emotional attachment to things he can't understand. For example, I recently worked on my day's leave to ensure a student who would otherwise be sent home to a war zone got his results dealt with quickly, because the mother in me couldn't abide the idea of him being homeless and on the streets of the CAR. S was also involved in the same case, but he deals with it purely on the facts "he'll just have to wait or go back" rather than pushing and pulling strings to get things done. I do things like that all the time. I think I digress. None of that seems to be spiritual, but it is emotional response to something I should perhaps just be objective about? I've never felt overwhelmed or tearful etc in an opera or a play etc and music generally doesn't invoke emotions in me, bar one or two with specific words. Told ya, weird

"For me... Believing there is more to this "life" than what we can simply see and touch. It's about believing in the soul. Don't ask me why or what brings me to this conclusion but I kinda feel like we do have other lives, but when you kinda tap into your soul, love the world and believe in the spirit, come to accept there is a higher "source" almost, only then do you die for the last time and become a peaceful energy. A bit like the biggest most relaxing satisfying sigh ever. That's when your work is done, when you reach full acceptance and peace." Thanks Princess! I think that ‘more to life than we can see or touch’ is a part of it. Love for example.

'For the greater good' if that makes sense. Like with me and all my recent shizzle, I chose to go with the inner peace option even tho it broke me, but I feel that was for the greater good.

"To me it means that there is an interconnectedness in the universe, from the smallest atom to the cosmos itself ~ “as above is so below”. The cycle of life repeats. Everything is born lives and dies, whether you are a person or a pumpkin, a star or a starfish. We are learning more and more about such things as dark matter which indicate there’s more to understanding life than we first thought... recognising this vast inter-relatedness and that I have my small thread in the weave is spiritual to me. " I agree with this. I also believe that we emit our own energies onto the plain of existence and the energy we emit is also attracted back to us.

"Simplest way to think about; it is your gut feeling. You dont why you feel certain ways or think and some things. Just your instinct. Listening to that although sometimes it makes no logical sense. " What if you principally make decisions based on rational thought?

Maybe... | |||

My gut digests food it's not really good at any kind of thinking I do however experience the release of a multitude of chemicals from my endocrine systems some are sensed by the effects they have upon my digestive tract Then use that data in my brain to rationalise a conclusion Beyond that I can stand on a mountain or a beach and experience positive chemical releases of well being I cannot personally subscribe to any definition of spiritual that could have any hint of super natural superstition God, ghosts or ethereal soul My personal take is simple awareness of self others and our surroundings

His book Waking Up is subtitled A guide to spirituality without religion. Several good talks on YouTube too!
