"So I’m moving house this week. Got my keys on Friday to my new house, but not moving until next Saturday. OMG how stressful is moving house! I have moved house years ago and can’t remember it being this stressful, does it get harder as you get older? Or is it just you collect more belongings? So I’ve booked removal firm and got a skip but I’m so stressed with minor details it’s unbelievable, I want everything new ( which I know is unrealistic. I just keep panicking that I’m making a wrong decision or I’m going to forget something, I am usually really good with stress factors but for some reason this has sent my anxiety through the roof to the point I had to Literally take myself outside the other day for a walk as I felt my chest was going to explode. Any tips or pointers to calm me down ? Before I cry end up homeless ![]() I did it last year. It's so much work. Like many testing times in life, it'll feel better in time.

"I wish I had some tips and pointers because I'm going through it at the moment and it is the most stressful thing that I have ever done.. and it's not only the moving which is stressing me out, but all the little jobs which I thought would be done in no time, but are taking forever to finish. Changing my address is proving very difficult aswell because whenever I call to tell someone they just put me on hold all day ![]() Omg omg don’t even go there! I feel you. DVLA, tried to change my details but my passport has ran out! And apparently you now need this to change your dvla details WTF, otherwise you need to fill in forms from post office, (another laborious job) ... I HATE BEING A GROWN UP SOMETIMES ![]()

"In my childhood days, before I left school at 18 years old, my family moved 7 times following my father's career. During my career, I relied on Live-In facilities with my Hotel management roles, so I've moved between 1973 to now at least 22 times. I did get a house of my own in 1992, which I get to 3-4 times a year. When it comes to moving home, there's one key suggestion. Have one small box, or even a carrier bag of a few favourite items that you can turn to and relax with at stressful times. It could be a cherished photo, your favourite chocolates or CD, a diary or actual written blog of past good times, or simply your fave tipple to open only once the removal company has successfully moved all your stuff into the new home! Tip #2. The last box onto the removal truck, contains the kettle with flex/plug, tea bags or coffee, sugar, biscuits and mugs. Get fresh milk supplies en-route. At your new place, that box comes off first, and get the kettle boiling. You'll be in the removal team's good books for life!" Cool tips ![]()

"That reminds me I haven't got any blinds yet ![]() ![]() ![]() I've just had so much on my mind I don't know what day it is half the time. I've been trying to do most of the jobs myself but yesterday my father came round and said he could help. He went upstairs to fix the bathroom door which wouldn't close properly. I was in the garden and I heard some loud banging and after awhile I ran upstairs to see what the fack he was doing ![]() ![]()

"When I moved into my house in 1992, the previous owners removed all the light bulbs, the shades from ceiling lights, even the front panels of all wall plug sockets! But he and his wife were both Estate Agents by profession, so maybe that was acceptable in his view. He also left a trail of debt and for about a year, I'd regular visits at the Front door by bailiffs and debt recovery agents looking for him! His forwarding address turned out to be false too." Don’t even go there! The house I’m moving into had arranged to leave all fixtures and fittings however they’ve removed every single socket (steel ones ) every spotlight , internal doors ( which I’ve just paid out £380 for 2 internal doors for. But hey I’ve a new shiny house. X

"I literally ended up throwing out about 1/3 of the stuff I’d saved to move into my new place with. It’s a difficult process, I definitely made some mistakes with some things I chucked, and with some things I kept. I’d focus your energy on the things that may have some meaning or sentimental value and not worry about the rest. There’s a couple of those I wish I’d kept! ![]() The house I’m in currently I’ve never settled so most is getting skipped, my children’s bedroom stuff is getting kept ( cost me a fortune) but I’ve not much myself as I’ve never invested. "Hi OP. I moved last November so I feel your pain! My tips would be- Get rid of any crap/junk before you move. Don't kid yourself you'll sort it out later and take it with you. If you don't need it now get it binned or chazza shopped. Take pix on you phone of your final meter reads at old house/ first reads at new place.Easier to locate a pic than find bits of paper. Make sure you know where stop cock is in the new house plus fuse box. Say hi to the new neighbours early on. Pays to keep on their good side. Ask friends to help with the move. Far less daunting if you've got help, even if it's just for half a day or whatever. Fridge Freezers usually take 24 hours to settle once you've moved them in.Stick a tray of ice cubes in to make sure is working ok. Toilet roll/kettle/teabags and bottle of wine need to be kept handy! Don't move pets in til you've got everything else in, otherwise you'll be worrying about them running out the door every time you bring stuff in. If you do have pets remember to get their chip info changed pronto. Good luck OP and it will all be worth it in the end. I love my new place and smile every time I come home ![]() Aww Thankyou. I was wandering about my fridge freezer, I’m literally only moving 5 mins away, should I defrost or just empty and re-fill? I’m worried about my cat (pablo) he’s only 2 and don’t think he will like the move ![]()

But that could've all been in vain, as I discovered to my horror, all the gas fired radiators in each room, were found to have false vents which didn't extract to the outside. The gas fumes were just building up in the house! Central heating went in within 6 weeks, as otherwise the house was classed as dangerous to live in!

If you've got any big furniture (like sofas) measure them first to make sure you can actually get them in through doors. It is possible to take them in through windows, but that can be a ball ache. Good luck x

"Feel your pain OP, i moved 3 times in 8 months over 2018/19, and each time it was more stressful! But that feeling on your first night in your new house, on sofa, drink in hand, thinking of new beginnings will be worth it! Good luck x" Omg that night after I moved in and everything was (kinda) in its place (aside from clothes and bits an bobs, you get my jist) I felt so relieved, very proud of how much I’ve done all by my little self ![]()
