It is not a problem... Just keep paying tax ...Some of us will need to subsidise the furlough and other outgoings..

The answer is to sort out all the problems in other countries so that people will not feel the need to escape.

Not quite sure how you're going to do that but it's good of you to volunteer.

There are huge problems if you're talking about the refugees who pay people smugglers huge amounts of money to be set adrift in rubber dinghys on the busiest shipping lane in the world while our solution seems to be to ask the navy to intercept them in huge military craft.

Pritti Patel has just appointed a Channel Clandestine Threat Commander!

Strange choice of words.

It's going to be a massive humanitarian effort. Well done, Tom, it's so selfless of you to highlight the need and take it on.

Emotive choice of words. Dehumanise and demonise these people and the country will be fine with us turning their rubber dinghys round and letting them take their chances.

I think the answer is to let everybody who wants to enter the UK in without check, and to shout louder at those who are against it and accuse them of racism and lack of humanity.

It should be illegal entry, no rights and immediately deported + fingerprinted, do it again banned for life.

There is no war ongoing, they are fleeing for freebies the UK hands out. The laughing stock of the world.

But some of the countries they are fleeing from has no problems, wars, or terror. Just basic life style and low pay. Nothing can be done about this.

Worthing

It is a worry, the majority are fit healthy looking young men. I don't want the uk to get the Swedish statistic (2nd only to South Africa). A horrible statistic which I won't repeat here.

refugees become desperate and will do what ever they need to do. that is why they use such unsuitable crafts.

the border patrols only have so many boats and officers to patrol a huge distance. the channel isn't just the 22 miles between dover and Calais.

everyone tries to do the best they can, every ship out there is obliged to offer assistance, no matter the circumstances.

getting the navy in is a problem, because it takes them away from other things. yes they have a maritime security and humanitarian role to perform.

I think the easiest answer ( but not easy nonetheless) lies in France
