disappearing off page one without anyone commenting do you feel a sense of duty to rescue it or do you think fuck ‘em they’re on their own ?

Depends on what the thread is about

If it's 'anyone in location x want some fun' then I'd leave it but if it's something interesting then I might bump

Some threads you wish would disappear when two forum users are having a debate (argument) between themselves. But often one can’t leave it alone

But in general if I’m not interested enough to comment, bye bye thread

Not a sense of duty but sometimes (what I think are) really good threads get missed because of the time posted and I reply because I'm interested.

I do cringe a bit when I see the pity bump - the person doesn't have any interest and then that thread disappears quickly again, never to resurface.

Always! I wouldn't let it get near the bottom either. Everyone has to start out somewhere and some of those I've encouraged in the past write the best threads nowadays so it's win win, innit.....
