"Dire straights ZZ top ![]() ZZ top are surely a 70s band. What constitutes an 80s band? They started in the 80s? Had hits in the 80s?

"Semi Final A Depeche mode Duran Duran New Order Simple Minds Write the bands you would vote for " That is so difficult. I would have said at the time Depeche mode as used to listen to them most in the 80s and went to see them about 4-5 times. Now though, looking back I would say simple minds especially after seeing them a couple of years back and realising just what I had not appreciated so much back then. Duran Duran were my guilty secret at the time lol. New order just brilliant. So - as it's now - simple minds.

"Dire straights ZZ top ![]() ZZ Top actually formed 1969. But your right what actually constitutes an 80,s band ? ZZ Top would say its called "payin your dues" twenty years to become an overnight sensation.

"Dire straights ZZ top ![]() A conundrum. I would stick my neck out and go for any band that had a hit in the '80s (might be controversial because then do you include re-releases from a different decade...?). Amend that to an original hit that hadn't been a hit for the same group in previous decades. Amend hit to release. Doesn't have to have been a hit. And what about solo artists - why just bands? We really need more details in these questions so we can make a clear and informed desicion... ![]()

"Japan Sisters of Mercy The Mission Levellers Hothouse Flowers Hipsway ![]() I think you might find Levellers are more considered a '90s band even though they formed in 1988 (bit of controversy) ![]()

"Semi Final A Depeche mode Duran Duran New Order Simple Minds Write the bands you would vote for " The only band I saw on that list was Simple Minds, at the height of their career, and I’m afraid they were dull and boring, a real disappointment. Off the top of my head, and ignoring groups from the 70s that matured in the 80s, the best “80s” band I saw was probably the Funboy Three.

"Visage Ultravox" Totally agree with Jennie .... I was a complete new romantic .... maybe it was the opportunity to wear make up that did it ... though I did look like a demented Panda and my mum used to go mad at me nicking her Mascara. Is also add Human League Heaven 17 R xxxx

"Well I'm an original Duranie but I will also say OMD ULTRAVOX TEARS FOR FEARS DEPECHE MODE. A HA." I saw Tears for Fears support The Thompson Twins - they blew them off stage. Very good.

"The Higsons The Larks Echo and The Bunnymen The Cure The Smiths Technically some of these were in existence at the end of the 70's Good shout .... the last 3 in particular" The first two have a special significant meaning to me so they always have to be in my 80's line up.
