It used to be unlimited back in the day but it got quite unwieldy I think which is why they set it to 175.i think it keeps this fresh on the forums so I don't think it need changing.

Some threads definitely need a longer lifespan, others however just need a voting system to shut them down

I don’t bother reading any if they’ve got to 100, as if I want to comment I need to ensure I’m not repeating someone who has already made the point. So trolling through 100 comments I’d rather look at other threads.

So 300 seems a bit excessive, in my opinion

If a thread needs closing, just get me to post on it. That usually has the effect of killing it dead!

I'd like pagination please, it's very unweildly scrolling through long threads; more modern forums remember the last page you viewed so you can pick up where you left off easily.

I appreciate this place is run by a small team though.

I'd prefer for users to be able to like posts, instead of the cumbersome scrolling through extraordinarily lengthy reposts done repeatedly, which exhausts the 175 avoidably. I'd hate to have to scroll through many more concatenated posts than we currently have. I don't care whether 'likes' may seem like a popularity contest, as endless re-posts show the same thing. Repetitive reposting just inflates bandwidth and deters people from reading lengthy topics. I'd happily have unlimited post numbers, if it was as easy to navigate as many systems have been for years.

But you can hit the threads you've posted to button and see the last 35 (although these are sorted by most recent activity on individual threads)

I think 175 is plenty.

I think it’s about right, if a topic is still going strong on 175 then it’s easy enough to have a part 2, and the majority of threads die a death long before that anyway.

I like the 175 limit. If a flame war starts then there is a limit to how it can go on for if the mods don't shut it down first.

If anyone wants to continue the topic they just start a part 2.

That takes you to your last post though right? If you posted #48 and there are #100+ posts it's still not great. Plus sometimes I read half a thread and want to come back to it, the forum doesn't remember where I left off so I have to find the right spot.

I like this sentiment but also don't really like 'likes' on posts; I'd rather people weren't lazy and edited their quotes to include just the pertinent part, but hey, internet innit.
