Sadly missed - remember as a kid flicking through the pages excitedly planning my next purchase - Sony Walkman or digital calculator watch!

Ahh those were the days!

Always one around your house, or your cousins or friends, in fact you walked into the majority of houses in the 80s and almost guaranteed they’d have one Toy section from 6-14 and the lingerie section in Kay’s catalogue from 14- upwards

They might have a clearance sale on pens and pencils. You can get your own memento.

Bill Bailey has a routine where he described walking into Argos to peruse "the laminate book of dreams".

I always liked that description of it, so accurate.

The Argos store in Derby has been closed since pre lockdown, and the local Sainsbury's doesn't have an outlet either!

Think I might just go to Beachy Head

There and to the left a bit

There are web pages where you can find copies of old catalogues from the 70s and they're actually quite riveting

somewhere

The first Argos store in Ireland only opened in 1996

Up to then anytime someone went to the uk we were asked to bring back a catalogue

The first day it opened in Dublin there was a queue a mile long outside

Some young entrepreneur grabbed dozens of the catalogues off a pallet in the shop ....walked down the queue selling them for a pound and people thought that he was doing them a favour
