Ok my house is over 200 years old I inherited it and 2 people have died in this house over the years and I hear footsteps on my stairs but I have nobody here no pets stairs are marble so its clear as day too

It depends what you think ghosts are. I don't believe you are hearing a dead person on your staircase. I do think you might be hearing a distant echo from the past or something that sounds like footsteps on your stairs but is a water pipe or building settlement

Its pretty clear its allways at the top and it sounds like someone slowly going down about 4 steps into it and it ends

I do think there are unexplained things that go on. I've had plenty of experiences that I have logical explanation for but I always keep an open mind. I won't dismiss the idea of ghosts but I'd want to look at all other possible, rational explanations too.

I've seen and heard too much as have members of my family to say that we have an explanation for everything.

The noises you are hearing are probably the sock fairies sneaking around at night, doing their nefarious business...... Do you ever find single stocks go missing from time to time when you do laundry....... You know you were wearing two socks, you know you tool them both off, you know they both went into the basket at the same time.... but only one comes out of the machine on laundry day.....

People who used to be alive but still have a consciousness? Very unlikely imo as our mind, personality, mind and experiences are created and stored in our brain. As our brain decays, the ability to create that person as they were is very likely lost forever. There's a lack of good scientific evidence for ghosts, despite billions of people having lived, in my opinion because they don't exist as we consider them to do. Likewise, other types of paranormal phenomena are typically devoid of anything but anecdotes. We'd like to live on and have all manner of magical things to be true but such influences and the huge power of our brains in creating our whole experience of life are much more than able to bend our perceptions and states of mind to create many or all of the things that we think of as psychic powers, ghosts etc. We only ever get our fabricated, manipulation of the world outside of us, so we should generally start by looking on the inside of us for what we think may be going on.

I was listening to a podcast, Eric Weinstein I think it was, and was discussing guage theory and 14 dimensions, was very interesting, but a lot went over my head. But I remembered a book I read years ago, about the possibility of "ghosts" possibly being echos of beings from higher dimensions amongst other things

There are estimated to have been 100.8 billion humans to have died in history. If you throw in the population of dead animals that figure while close to impossible to ever truely guess is a big ass total. The number of ghost sightings and "encounters" should be so much more common than they actually are, and certainly not confined and limited to creepy ass houses and buildings.
