I've often compared fab to being a bit like school. You have the older cool kids, the dorky and geeky ones, the know it all, the social butterflies and there is of course the class clown.

If fab was a teen sitcom what character would you be? I'm now thinking of saved my the bell or sweet valley high some of you young ones won't have a clue what I'm talking about now lol.

I was never one of the cool kids but wasn't a nerd either! but was known as being "mental" enough that no one wanted to pick a fight with me....

also.. I was super "street smart" which meant that i ended up knowing a fair few people who were of.. how should i put it... "nutters" (can't think of a better word) to the point where i wouldn't call them friends but i could "acknowledge" them or people would come up to me and say hi! and you'd get the look to say "shit how do you know X!"

Funnily enough ( or rather more sadly), when I return many years from being away to the area I was raised, the "prolific bullies" hadn't faired so well.

One had taken his life, another was leading a pitiful existence and another was mr nobody in a rather mundane role...all had been the outspoken individuals controlling the school years of many.

Makes you wonder how unhappy they truly were too to behave that way.

The inbetweener.

Reasonable at sport and knew some of the hard gang from primary so didn't get bullied. Good academically but lazy so did just enough so wasn't identified as a swat.

So from those old shows, it was females who tended to be the middle of the road characters, so I'll probably be one of the female ones. Off to the fab changing room.

I (Bloke) was definitely a bit of a misfit, had long hair, liked heavy metal, was a prefect or something for a while but got stripped of that after I dumped a lad head first into a bin

Was the school football goalie for a while before discovering rugby. That was great as I got to injure P.E. teachers that had bullied pretty much everyone beforehand.

At the same time I was geeky enough to write what was basically a virus/trojan horse that did successfully activate on thd 1st of April as intended. It wasn't malicious, just drew the Ghost busters logo on all BBC micro screens as well as a very poor rendition of thd tune before declaring that the IT teacher wore leather underwear

The best bit was they didn't realise that for the next two weeks the boot text was replaced with Sinclair Spectrum, 48k.

Not sure what category Sandra or I would fall into now. We were both uncomfortable at school, spending our days keeping our heads down. I was always considered the thick one, as I was very quiet, choosing my friends carefully. Sandra was bullied by a couple of girls as she was not one of the "boy chasers" and she lacked confidence. The loud mouth class clowns always seemed to gain more respect from the teachers, as they were so confident.

I was a combination of a few.

First up the tomboy. Hang out mainly with the lads and played football. Then once the girls hormones kicked in and they decided they liked boys now instead of boys being smelly I was in the way of developing romances (in the girls heads at least) and there came the bullying. Which led me to...

John Bender from The Breakfast Club.

Was unsure how to deal with and process emotions effectively, toxic relationship with my mother, scruffy looking and resentful. Bunked off for most of the final year and disliked people. Could see and feel the nastiness in the world and school and just wanted to be alone and free yet loved. I didn't care about being accepted as such, but I still wanted to be cared about. A non-conformist but not out of arrogance or because I didn't think I should have to, but because things were corrupt and unjust.

When I bunked off I went to be free and alone on the ice. Which takes me to.....

Charlie Conway from The Mighty Ducks

Found freedom and passion on the ice. Skated my thoughts and emotions away. Once I found ice hockey I found a new way of life and dedicated most of my time to it. Worked my way up to team captain and led my team to a league win. My team were my family

I was pretty much the class scapegoat. Got deserted by my mates during the long holidays after the O levels for not fitting in. Was the only one who owned up to being part of a group who stole sodium from the Chemistry lab to perform experiments in the bogs. I tried to be liked by being funny but wasn’t so didn’t graduate to the giddy heights of class clown. So in 6th form became the Spiritual musician and found a place in the world.

I was a bit like Dave in the swimming advert, not cool at all but swam like a fish, but spent most of my spare time up to the age of 15 swimming or listening to rock music.

Right now no, in fact I never really have. However there were players who I would love to meet in person and thank them for changing my life, for motivating and inspiring me.

There are also individual moments of sheer brilliance that will be etched in my brain forever. One in particular was a save by a goalie named Pat Jablonsnki. He was on the deck, puck about to hit top corner and from somewhere he managed to bat the puck with his stick and kinda swipe it out the air. My eyes wide and jaw dropped.

Another goalie who I admired hugely for his no fucks attitude was Ron Hextall.

As for outfield players, there are so so many who's dedication to the sport and their teammates blew my mind, as well as their skill and guts.
