I am now debt free. After 2 years I am now clear of the wretched credit card and I can now look forward to enjoying next week's pay with very few outgoings; rent, fuel, food and other bills.

Just cancelled it too, No more credit for now; well not at those interest rates...

Pity my job closes down at the next Bank holiday.

This will take the sting out of it though.

I need a holiday on the cheap, with my partner.

So to all those struggling: pay off the biggies ASAP and overpay if you can. It's not easy on min wage and I should know!

Well done you. Luckily i have never had a credit card as i never gave in to the temptation but know alot of folk who owe £10000's.

This is really great news for you OP and I am so pleased for you.

I have just over 2 years until I am debt free from my previous marriage, which ended 8 years ago

so I cannot wait for it to be gone.

It is extremely difficult to maintain responsibilities at any time but currently it is extremely hard for many people and many of those will not be able to afford to pay additional payments...but I do understand your sentiment.

For those in financial difficulties I would recommend seeking help, there are many charities who provide excellent services free of charge to enable you to regain control of your finances.

Well done on clearing your debts, that must not have been easy but you saw it through.

Lots of hotels and holiday places are offering special discounts/cheap rates to try and entice people to staycation (sorry for using that word!), it might be worth a look at some of those (Premier Inn, Travelodge etc).

Well done OP. Credit card could work to your advantage though. If you have one that gives you cash back and pay the balance on time - you don't pay a penny for interest and get "free" money coming your way. I have a John Lewis one. Pay my bills and everyday expenses on it, pay the balance off every month so I don't pay any interest band get about £25 coming to me in John Lewis/Waitrose vouchers every 4 months. There are other credit cards that offer cashback once a year.

Well done. Mrs DRST has said once. Mine is paid off I'm allowed to get myself a Harley. Now that's an incentive I can work towards.

Credit is great tool when you don’t need it , a terrible choice when you do need it.

Well done OP. Now try to always live of 80% of what you make and you will never get in debt again

Thanks everyone, for the kind words. It's nice to give out good news in these dark and strange times.

Bluebell/B: I have spoken to a fellow debtor, who is now no longer worrying about debt. All this after having a grownup-talk-about-money with me, then again with Step Change. Martin Lewis is a life saver as avalanching debt can ruin and end lives. Only 3+ years for that debtor to return to normal life. The extra money gained with SC's help IS enough to allow for peaceful sleep and a sense of normality.

Nicebutverynaughty/C: Promise you'll post a similar thread about your financial freedom in 2022? It'll be nice to see how you react to Freedom-from-debt day.

Meli: Lockdown, cheap petrol, closed down shops and clubs etc, definitely helped my save. Not spending £30 odd a week on petrol and weekend treats (coffee and cake) with my partner made for huge sacrifice, as you can imagine. As for words like staycation, like you I don't like them either. Domestic holiday is much better. We do love bargain hunting the web for cheap deals on MSE's favourite sites. Now if only we can synchronise our post Covid/job change holiday times.

MrsBerry: That's my plan, wait for Experian and Clearscore to play catch up and then chase the really good card offers. Right now only the 30% cards are on offer to me at the moment. Let's see how September goes.
