Ugh, difficult question. It depends a lot on the social contest...for example, let's say you fancy a coworker, that you know does not "see you that way". Telling her would make things awkward.

I generally go for it when the lady I fancy is not someone I am forced to meet and interact with everyday. Otherwise, I just bottle it up and hope my mind finds a new "target".
