And not the F1 team lacking at the back

I'm sure there must be a few of our swingers on here who take it, a very close friend of mine has started taking it and she says her sex drive has shot up from can't really be bothered to bloody hell i'm always horny but hubby can't keep up with her demands, she has only been on HRT for about 3 months and is surprised on how quick its kicked in

She has also suffered from head aches and her boobs are tender now and again, all side effects of HRT apparently

How has HRT affected you? Have you got more horny since you started taking it?

I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole.

My sister developed cancer thru hrt and has since died.

to many side effects.

Yus, I would hasten to agree

The OPs friend has been very lucky.

Having lived with someone on HRT, I associate it more with :

Severe mood swings

Ranges of emotion that need to be seen to be believed

Insomnia

Reduction in libido

Sweats

Night sweats

To name but a few

Not nice to witness and support, let alone go through.

i also know someone that was on it for 15 years ( i know that is not recommended) but this women is now 72 years old and only looks 58,ish

She has had quite a few of the other symptoms mentioned and knows the risks, but i guess it is down to luck, as with all cancers

I don't and wont take HRT. I consulted a doctor in India when I was living there and she advised that doctors in the western world handed it out far to often and too easily. It should only be used in extreme cases. Menopause is a natural process and in most cases only has minor physical effects. The youth culture of the west causes the most problems for women here.

HRT should only be taken for a short amount of time. Lots of gps don't keep an eye on how long they do repeat scripts for them...hence the cases of breast cancer going through the roof. Tell your friend to be careful. X

I would agree with those who say it is for extreme symptoms rather than a routine option and I wonder also whether it is monitored by doctors as well as it should be; side effects apparently vary a great deal and some of my older friends have blossomed while others were not so lucky. I personally would not go on it even I were to start having symptoms.

I turned into the bitch from hell, (and before anyone says anything more than normal). Had hot and cold sweats, depression, the lot. My doctor would only prescribe it for 6 months and tbh I didn't need it after that

from a town near you

i was on it for 10 yrs and i couldnt have functioned without it

i went into early menopause at 40,i could hardly walk i ached all over,my hair went brittle,my skin was bad,mood swings,hot flushes,night sweats,memory loss,etc

i was also told because i am only 5foot,i was at risk of brittle bones.

within a week of taking it i was like a new woman

i had no side effects,hadnt felt as good in years

im off them now but must admitt they worked for me

I started my menopause very early, 33 but refused to go on hrt after doing some research on it! The cons seemed to out weigh the pros to me! My symptoms weren't really that bad, so against my gps better judgement i refused the treatment!

I'm going through menopause now and I'm not taking them, seen too many with side effects worse than the symptoms of the change, I haven't lost my sex drive in fact I think it is higher but must admit do need a bit of lube from time to time

On the 6th march i had a full hysterectomy for womb cancer on the 7th march i woke with menoausal symptoms which were awful but i was started on Hrt patches str8 away that day,3 months down the line im doing great on them am i more horny than i was NO im exactly the same now as i was before starting them ..as with all medications there are side effects so far ive been fine and know many women who have been on it for yrs with no ill efects either .

To the poster whos sister died of breast cancer then im sorry alotho this can happen the risks are very very small .

Four years into an endless menopause but still better than the month I was on HRT. My immune system went haywire and it took months to get over the effects.

There are many women who have died with cancer attributed to hrt unfortunately.

Yes my sister may have got it if not on it but she was a healthy lady before and it ravaged her immune system. Her oncologist said she was seeing lots of ladies who were having the same problems

I love my HRT!

I had a full hysterectomy including removal of my ovaries following an inherited form of breast cancer. This meant I hit the menopause overnight. Within 3 days of my operation I was having not just night sweats but 24 hour sweats. I was in the worst mood ever and in the end took myself off to bed so I didn't inflict my vile self on my poor husband.

Started on the HRT patches on day 5 and noticed a complete change within 3-4 hours.

I now feel happier and hornier than ever. No horrible periods, no nasty PMT and I really couldn't be without it. If I leave a patch off for a day or 2 the difference is really noticable.

From the information I was given, patches are better than pills because you get an even, continuous dose, but it's not for every woman.

closer than you think

I had to have a full hysterectomy at the age of 28 and because my ovaries were removed they inserted a 6 month HRT implant

All was going well but noticed after a few years that the period of time bewtween implants was getting less (suffering from hot flushes, mood swings) and my male gp was always inserting a 6 month implant.

Had a new female gp start at my practice and she insisted on a blood test which showed I had an oestrogen level 100 times more than it showed have been!!!

She told me this was more dangerous than no oestrogen.

I have not been on anything for over 10 years and feel fine ..... apart from the ocassional power surge (sounds nicer than hot flush!)

I take it Have been on it on and off since 40 when I gave up smoking and it buggered my hormones up

Subsequently developing Underactive thyroid. suits me wouldn't give it up on a 1mg kliovance now.

Went through menopause with hardly any problems, get hot flushes but seem to cope ok,,,,as 4 libido, never felt hornier, and contrary 2 wot been told, never need lube,,,wetter then ever !!!!!!

Like any treatment, it would depend on the person being treated and any GP worth their salt will follow through and advise if a change is needed.

I could not have managed without it and my doc went through it carefully with me to explain the pros and cons and left the decision entirely to me.

My sis has managed without it.

The usual adage, we are all different.

Does anyone here take it for poly cystic ovarian syndrome? I had the patches and gel for a bit to stop being so "fuzzy" but I didn't notice much change and stopped taking it

Any one had any success? Also are the implants any better than the patches, hate how the glue gets fluffy and how easily they fall off

I have been on Everol patches from early 2008 but as im now post op ts they have helped me big time, I get my liver function test every 6wks but thats also cos i take other meds that can cause liver probs and my GP will not give me my repeat prescription till I have my BP checked every month

I'm on 0.5mg of oestrogen gel and the only problems I'm having are mild hot flushes, headaches and aching joints. Think I may need to up the dose? All things carry some risk but quality of life is more important to me than length of life. I may change my tune if I were to get a terminal illness but right now I feel my life would be unlivable without HRT

It has been a long adjustment forsure, without it now within 2 weeks it's hot flushes etc

In general I have found it to be good.

This is a different perspective I know, it has upped the sex drive considerably over time

On it for life, if I get issues then so be it.
