It could be some thing silly like quoting a song: Golden Brown by The St ranglers, causing problems that wouldn't occur on other sites/platforms.

This was the auto response...

Sorry but we can't accept any forum posts that contain the word or are on the topic of: str*ngle

As I understand it, the messaging part of the site has keyword and link recognition and issues automaticbans if they are used.

The profiles are not checked using the same system and need reporting if there are issues. I’m not sure if there is a list of banned words or links.

Maybe a mod can help with any useful links...

I once named that band that had hit with golden brown in a thread about “ which favourite album ... Someone explained about algorithms picking key words etc

Then just the other day my friend got banned for replying to a message saying that she was into most things but NOT this and NOT that ... Algorithm can’t work out context !!! .... it kinda sucks

The ban is triggered by a automatic filter.

The bio would only get the attention of admin if reported.

I worked for a horticultural and landscape company and we found our own email system blocked some words regularly used in proper context in our industry but with other conotations eg dyke, hoe. And the name of that bright yellow plant you see in spring.. The R word. We did get the restriction lifted.

The site is still in the 90's, don't get me wrong, it works but isn't really an up to date or good looking site so why would the artificial-dumbness be any different?

I personally think the worst thing is that there is no way of challenging these kind of stupid decisions or tech screw-ups but as the site is run by volunteers and not for profit then it is understandable.

Which is the site owners choice, we are all only guests here, don't expect equality or freedom of speech/opinion.

It's my ball and I'll decide who can play with it and when kind of mentality.

first rule of ban club .... you cant talk about ban club

i had a similar message ban for the first time recently too op i was asking someone why they had s link to something on their profile and i got a few hours ban ... would be good if the rules were somewhere to review before hand or they gave you a first warning instead ... otherwise how can we know our action is forbidden until we already have the ban

You may be right, but possibly a bit harsh. It is 'their ball'. But the process seems more to do with keeping a clear chain of command (therefore accountability), and making the rules easier to observe and moderate. No need for referral or extensive discussion.

The site is trying to walk the line on a subject matter that challenges much of established society. That is changing, POF Tinder etc. But I reckon the faintest whiff of illegality or of being drawn in to some of the murkier stuff people get up to and the site would be up to its arse in litigation, and gone in a minute. A blunt process it may be

but it seems unlikely to be a secret morality act. Of course however good the process was, some people always get cross when their bubble gets the wrong kind of prick.

This is a simple case of just ignore and move on unfortunately nasty people will always be around us but the more we ignore them the better it is

Can you imagine if that attitude was taken in all walks of life?

Life would be simpler though, I guess, as there would be no need for independant decision makers or any processes such as the legal system and courts. You could just have a Judge Dredd type system.

Yep. Fortunately this is a forum, not the judiciary. A bit overzealous naffs a person off, not much more, and ignorance of the law (as people daily moan here) is never much of a defence.

Dredd as a mod? Hmm. Judges are taken as infants, trained for many years, have a final live mission test where they can fail or be executed by their assessor. They also spend 20 years on Titan for any infraction. Not sure mods would choose that risk just to tell people to stop waving their literal or metaphorical dicks

It’s just a word recognition algorithm written into the code. It only gets triggered when keywords, other sites or particular links are used.

That's interesting I didn't realise!

This thread made me think about perspective again too.... ....I have at times become proper ragey (for at least five minutes ) when I've received bans that I thought were unjust - but they do eventually run out and also it's an opportunity to go and do better shit out in the real world too rather than waste a morning messaging admin or complaining of the injustice to my fab friends, so I look at them as a gift now.....

But the mods probably are a bit like Dredd, chosen for their tow the party line attitude, they are given the power with no recourse from those they precide over and only have to answer to a higher power that can at any time decide they no longer want them as a mod so 'kill them off'/demote or ban them from the position or site.

This is the reason I stopped taking out a paid membership. Trying to talk or advise about BDSM in an adult manner on this site is fraught with problems. I was genuinely trying to keep the rules but regularly getting suspended.
