Dad bod the definition

It seems everyone has a variation on what they class as a 'Dad Bod'

For me its a guy who has a bit of podge & no defined muscles on the torso area, maybe even carrying a few extra pounds.

Yet I've had quite slim guys with just visible abs tell me they have dad bods when they are clear gym goers

What do you class as a 'Dad Bod'

Curious to see how different ladies & men differ or agree in their views & definitions

I think the same as you OP, but I suppose, technically, any father has a dad bod, regardless of whether he's gym fit or overweight.

Modern mans most existential question...

I'd say it looks like an et body.

Thin arms thin legs and a round belly...big head is optional but usually offered as standard.

Suppose part of it is also your own expectation and maybe how you’ve changed too. Personally I’ve found I’m in nowhere near as good shape as I was prior to kids, I’m a dad so I class myself as having a Dad bod but doesn’t mean it’s terrible, just not what it was.

In my opinion dad bod is the guy who isn't vain and gym obsessed, happy to eat carbs and have a drink. But also has a certain charm about them.

Someone like kevin james kinda build. Or james cordon.

Kevin James and James Corden look like they only eat carbs.Hell thet could made of carbs

Thats not a dad bod....its a body of an unhealthy man.

Kevin Smith was as big as both of them put together...but he sorted his lifestyle out and now looks like a healthy dad

I agree with the expectations & personal change. Sort of like with food our personal tastes can also change over time.

I'd say average to chunky build without defined abs is what I'd class as a dad bod, muscular legs and shoulders is a rugby type but slim guys are not dad bods

The perennial job of dads worldwide is to be an excruciating embarrassment to all those around them.

They usually achieve this through the inflated egos of their big heads.

I guess it's one of those internet meme definitions...

which means it can literally mean anything and everything

As you say it has a varied definition now. Very few things are actually descriptive of their true meaning, it is usually more a case of them being twisted to fit the current climate and be more inclusive so to speak.

The original meaning of a "dad bod" was as a guy aged, his body while still being impressive would show signs of a slowing metabolism and aging definition. Less defined with hints of increasing body fat.

These days it covers any body shape that is essentially neither slim, toned, or ripped.

You don't have to be an actual dad to have a dad bod

Like you can have an athletic type body everything gets labeled either gym or dad body, gym is a 6 pack where dad is small bit of flab. Like I go gym but I’m not a gym goer body because I don’t lift weights if that makes sense?

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

By *emini ManMan

There and to the left a bit

I tend not to use labels because of the confusion it can cause but suspect I'd be defined as having a Dad bod, slightly podgier than average.

Either way ultimately on a site like this it comes down to attraction and for that a label isn't necessarily needed

I would agree with you OP. I would class my body as a dad bod (but I'm not actually a dad).

All my weight goes on the front so I have a belly and no real muscle definition. For my height (6'2) I'm probably half a stone to a stone overweight.

I'm probably kind of a definition of a dad bod, fluctuate between 19 to 21st, arms down to 18.5" or so with a 52" chest but look nothing like I used to, have a keg instead of a six pack.

I can now buy clothes that kind of fit ok instead of when I was younger and training hard where everything needed altering and taking in around the middle.

I've also gone grey in the goatee area
