Just went to a party

Just had my first social outing post lockdown and I feel a bit weird about the whole thing... The only reason I went was because a) it was one of my closest friends' birthday and b) he assured me that he was going to keep it to the garden so as to let people socially distance. He was even asking me for advice about suitable party foods that didn't have to be shared. But when I got there people were in the garden, but sitting really close together. At first I explained to my friends that I didn't want to hug them because I live with someone vulnerable and they were very understanding but as everyone got more d*unk that totally went out the window and they all hugged me goodbye when I left and were sharing food etc. I didn't feel safe taking public transport so I drove (2 hours there and back, bloody London traffic!) which meant I couldn't drink and just had to watch everyone else get d*unk.

I guess what I'm saying is that I didn't expect to feel so weird about going out post lockdown. I feel guilty and annoyed at myself that I didn't social distance and I'm annoyed that it took so much effort for me to get there and I couldn't drink, which I would have really liked to after months of lockdown. I know I would have had major FOMO if I didn't go but at the same time I also regret going. It just sucks that what should have been a happy occasion has left me feeling worried, guilty and frustrated

I guess op you had to go to experience it and be able to understand how you feel afterwards. In these strange times we all need to adapt back to life in our own ways.

Maybe now you have been to the party you may feel that you need to do a few smaller low key events before feeling more comfortable with socialising in bigger groups.

Better to live on the side of caution. Current times call for total awareness and self control. You did the right thing. There is talk of a second wave coming this winter. Now is the time to take extra precuations so that 2021 can be saved. Can't imagine what New Year's parties will look like but I know almost everyone will have the same new year's resolution. Getting through the winter months of 2020 - 2021 without the threat of Covid returning will be more than anyone can wish for.

Im sticking to meeting small groups of family and friends who I know and can trust. I did have a meal in a very well arranged pub garden last week that felt safe. But Im not thinking of going out boozing inside pubs yet.

Newbury

Had a lovely time in a well spaced pub beer garden last weekend, didn't feel crowded or dangerous, was even lucky enough to be able to socially distance visit to my parents yesterday.

However it still feels terrible going shopping, it's almost as though people are forgetting we should still be careful and respectful of distancing.
