"If you own a shop or business that has stopped taking cash because of COVID, you are part of the problem and the reason why lockdown won’t end for a very long time. " What problem? If they use contactless there's less chance of virus transmission. So they are actually helping the situation.

"Coincidentally I went into quite a large market in Blackpool yesterday and a big sign at the entrance, CASH ONLY which was a suprise but did'nt matter as I had plenty of crinkly in my purse. " I wouldnt shop there again as not everyone has the cards to use in supermarkets. I prefer both to use and as long people want to use both it should be there. As goes for blackpool its been pushing for the people with money for years. Sadly its been dieing for years.

"Need to explain further? Because the government are making the most of COVID and moving towards a cashless society" What's the government's motivation for this? Have full transparency one what everyone earns so that they pay tax? Considering the countries broke, I don't see this as a bad thing. Maybe I'm not seeing the big picture? Happy to be enlighten.

"Its a corporate move https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jul/19/cashless-society-con-big-finance-banks-closing-atms The same as cash no longer gives you cheaper benefits on items but credit card/direct debit does." https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/03/uk-cashless-changing-payment-habits-britons-lockdown I don't always buy this 'being left behind' stuff. Times change, habits change. Generations being born now won't know any different than the world they are born into. There always has been and will be resistance to change. But those who resist change won't be around forever and a new society is always being built by those coming up behind them. Help those out who find it difficult to adapt but don't always resist change because of them.

"My local 24/7 charges 50p per card transaction, so I always use cash in there, otherwise I generally pay by card anywhere else, unless it's a self serve checkout at Tesco and I've got a pocket full of shrapnel " Your local 24/7 is breaking the law if they charge you for a card transaction, as of the 13/01/2020 the rules were changed. Bubble them in

"Isn’t it illegal to NOT accept the Queen’s tender? Along the same lines you used to have shops that would have signs up saying they wouldn’t accept £50 notes for fear of them being fake? On a side note I going for a jolly next week with a bunch of mates, and have been told in advance it’s a cash only pub." No it's not illegal. A shop doesn't have to accept your money or sell you anything. Same as a pub can refuse to serve you.

Bubble them in " just what we were about to say. It is illegal now to charge any amount for a card transaction of any amount. We know a shop that was charging for any transaction under £10. They got reported and don't charge for card use now. Don't know if they were fined or just got a warning but the result is a result. I, Mr B, used to use cash all the time but since covid I found I wasn't spending much so didn't get any cash out, now using my card 99% of the time. As habits change and all that

"Need to explain further? Because the government are making the most of COVID and moving towards a cashless society" It don't help the genuine charity tin rattlers though does it? Felt really sorry for the local Big issue seller today, everyone saying "sorry mate, don't carry cash anymore"

"One supermarket was responsible for this ‘FAD’ of only taking card payments, they have a lot to answer for... Let look at it logically You go into a supermarket, you walk around picking stuff up and placing in your trolly/basket. Then at the checkout you place item onto the belt, after which a checkout person handles the items (which you have just touched) and scans them. Again you pick up your scanned items (Which have just been handled by the checkout person) and place them in your bags or trolly. In my experience majority of time no body is wearing protective gloves, so you have already cross contaminated EVEN BEFORE YOU CONSIDER METHOD OF PAYMENT...! So cash or card makes no difference, the only people card payment is beneficial for is the banks who make a huge amount of profit per transaction, which is never passed onto the consumer.." Except if you pay by card the cashier doesn't have to handle your money and hand you change which has been touched by God knows how many people!
