Watching the rerun of the 2012 opening ceremony and remembering what it felt like to be proud to be British! How things have changed in the last 8 years is quite astonishing

"What changed "

Changed from a nation that was united, forward thinking, proud of it's achievements, acknowledging of it's failings, but above all was proud of it's diversity and world leading culture - we were damn cool!

Now? Bitter, divided, spiteful, insular, resentful and politically polarised.

Not sure I'd call any westernized country a world leading culture let alone here. It's all too consumer driven and materialistic to propagate a true sense of meaning into people's lives via culture, especially in the UK. Families and friends yes, but culture, where?

Weirdsville South Coast Dorset

It's pretty sad to think I live where the watersports (*sniggers*) events was held. The Olympic man statue that welcomed people at the train station has been destroyed and gone, the post boxes painted gold for every gold medal we won look sad and need a good paint. The only remaining sign it was here is the Olympic rings up on the hill on Portland that's now fenced off to the public.

Newcastle and Gateshead

I think that was the last time that the country all smiled as one... and I remember that a lot of people thought we couldn’t pull it off!

The thing that amazed me about the opening ceremony is with the amount of people and dress rehearsals they had... that Danny Boyle begged them not to give any of it away.. and none of it leaked at all
