I guess one statistic often ignored is why the overwhelming number of people killed by police world wide are men. In the US, 1004 people were shot dead by police, 43 of them were women. In the UK 41 people have been shot dead by police in the last 15 years, only one was female.

So are the men discriminated against I wonder?

Because of the gun on the belt in the USA. Any resisting arrest or fight with a policeman has to be treated like a life or death situation. They cannot afford to be overpowered and have their gun used against them or others.

In this country, no gun in play, and the obvious physical discrepancy between sexes means that an officer is more likely to fight a woman and not kill her. If he has a gun on his belt he may well have to though, remember he has to protect that gun at all costs.

Interestingly the number of killings of unarmed people by police is absolutely miniscule. I think it was 3 unarmed men (and remember unarmed might not mean not dangerous if they are resitlsting arrest and trying to get the gun), this year.

The media are stoking this whole situation up, which ironically inflames race tensions, making it more likely people will feel unfairly targeted, resist arrest and get shot.

It's not as simple as the media portray it.

What's also interesting is the way the media keep telling us that black men fear being shot by police. They are hundreds of times more likely to be shot by another Blackman than a policeman.

These are the facts of the matter. It's a crazy situation and calm, factual conversation needs to take place but sadly, if one brings up facts, one is labeled as racist or a police lover. It's very odd.

Oh and by the way, in the USA there are 10 million arrests a year, in a country awash with firearms.

A certain number of those arrests will go horribly wrong.

A certain number of police will be horrible racists, and a huge amount will be poorly trained, highly stressed and low quality individuals.

Guns plus aggro = unlawful killings sooner or later.

Which make sense since statistically men commit more crime, especially violent crime.
