hey all..so today's been a hard day for me.Due to Covid19 I've been let go from my work.I work in upper management and this has really come as a surprise to me.Im wide awake at 3.40am worried as fuck and afraid of how I'm gonna pay my mortgage or how live is gonna transpire.So tonight....I just need someone to tell me it will work out...because right now it feels rough.

In my work place 10 drivers need to go. I am in that 10 unless I can prove to management later in this meeting why they should keep me on. Gutted after being there 13 yrs. feels like a massive kick in the bollocks tbh

Totally agree with that. As I work for a world wide company and a very rich company but they have decided to make cuts cause they have lost abit of pocket money (for them) since covid hit

Sorry to hear that my friend, something like that is bound to cause worry for lots of ways but one of the first things you'll have to do is speak to your bank and tell them your current situation and see how things go ,l know having a financial payment to meet is always gonna be a worry ,been there not only wore the t shirt but printed the f **king thing too...they will have to accommodate you in a financial way to suit YOU in the current Covid 19 climate, l wish you the very best ,please try not to worry too much ,

So sorry to hear this OP. I know these are dark times for you, but it's strange how often good things come out of adversity of this sort. I went from futureless, jobless and living in a squat to running a company. Stay optimistic if you can, and believe in yourself. You are strong, and you will survive this setback.

You will be ok. The life comes in waves, now you've hit the bottom of one. Before you know it you'll be at the top of another.

Meanwhile, if you know the date you're going from - apply for universal credit and start looking for another job. Even if the job is low payed - it's a job and an income to help you keep your roof over your head. And it's only temporary until something better comes along.

i so feel your worry.

I too can see that the company I work for will not come out of this esp if the Goverment put 2 & 2 together (leave that there)

Ive now been signed off sick as i cant cope any more.

1 inform all your money owing places

2 cv up date an get out

3 be open to a new challenge

4 cut right back with expensise

5 type with your glasses on.

The Fab community is one were you can share and you can just feel a tad better as you get positive feed back

If they are a large firm, find out if you will get any outreach help with CV writing, job searching etc

Update your CV and linked-in. Use your network to explain that you are looking for a new opportunity

Have a look at agencies

Maybe ask them if it is possible to be furloughed - i think the Gov scheme runs until Oct... But i don't know if this later impacts redundancy payout. You might be to check

In the situation that we're all in now no job is safe. The job that I work in they've told me that my job is secure but you can never be sure what is round the corner so it is sad to hear that you've lost your job try secure yourself a new job asap

Its not a loss, but an opportunity. I'm a site supervisor who often takes the opportunity to do the lowest hardest job on site. Labouring. Reason: it makes me a better supervisor.

Once you've started work at the bottom, plan your direction and head that way.

My suggestion would be to start a new business that suits the current environment but is flexible enough to adapt to changes.

Your a manager. so I credit you with having the smarts and determination to achieve. So now you have to manage your self.

Excell at what you do.

I'm sending you hugs - I lost my job too last month so I know how you feel.

Get in touch with Universal Credit as soon as you can so you know the roof over your head is safe.

Take payment holidays from any credit cards or loans you have - most companies are offering 3 months during Covid19.

Brush up your CV and join job agencies etc ..

Remember it's not the end of the world and you will be OK.

So let’s get this straight then! You two are blaming the unprecedented devastating global COVID-19 pandemic on rich people? This pandemic has not only taken its toll on world wide healthcare systems its also decimated the global economy. Companies and businesses across the world that were thriving are now on the brink of bankruptcy so they are taking hard and unpleasant decisions to try and save the companies so not everyone loses their jobs.

If you run a household and money is tight what do you do ( if you’re responsible and don’t have the attitude that everyone else owes you) you budget and decide on what Is necessary and what you really need and what you can do without.

If unfortunately you lose your jobs social security will provide some assistance, the OP was looking for some moral support, not looking for people to blame.

The good thing is that the banks are being quite understanding at the moment, so you should be able to get some wriggle room on your mortgage for a period of time.

Like others have said, sort your CV out, get on online and start applying for jobs right now.

Good luck. You will get through it. I lost mine 3 years ago, was tough for a year or so but can see light at the end of the tunnel now so keep plugging away.

Assuming you are being made redundant, then you will be entitled to (if I remember correctly) 12 weeks notice plus whatever redundancy pay you have accrued (normally 1 weeks pay per full year worked for people aged between 22 and 41). That gives you a little bit of a buffer.

I hope you find something else quickly.

I'm really sorry OP. I heard the figures on the news this morning and its so sad.

In the meantime, as for your mortgage, speak to your mortgage provider. You may be able to get a break or pay the interest only for a while. That should help take the pressure off.

Obviously I'm not sure what you do but if your skills could be applicable to management in other industries, there are certain sectors that are growing at the moment. IT, certain areas of healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Best of luck OP.

Sorry to hear this. It is very disorientating when this happens and the feelings of loss are considerable. Your shock is completely understandable. I was made redundant 24 years ago and set up my own business. It proved to be the best thing that could have happened to me. This year is hellishly challenging for many of us and you aren’t alone going through this. I hope you are quickly through the pain of losing your job and able to focus on discovering what to do next. For every ending there is a new beginning I sincerely hope you find your soon.

After being made redundant in the early 90s and losing a house, then losing a business in NZ, I decided never to rely on an employer or customers again. I tend to stay 3-4 years max now, tale on roles with massive learning needed, and follow growth markets/skills and do consulting and e-commerce when I have time for a 2nd income

One of us is in the same boat, so we are having a big of a sort out of stuff we have no further use for and selling them.

They also are are happy to take the challenge of doing something different and keep the money coming in.

A job is a means to support yourselves not life defining, so even if it's not the best, it can be changed when a better opportunity arrives. Definition of employee is to use, and that cuts both ways. New jobs often spawn new opportunities that would be previously off your radar.

The same happened to me. So I'm moving counties, selling my house, and then buying a property in Spain, who's prop prices are gonna take a beating. Back to the uk, taking 2 years off work, then a nice new venture to raise cash.
