as a football hater... i know nothing (or want to) about the game.

my question is, i know players get paid a stupid amount of money for what they do by their clubs, but do they get paid for playing england games?? if so, who pays them??

South Gloucestershire

No they don't but the extra value it gives to them via thier sponsorship and market value makes them incredibly lucrative for all players involved.

Yes they do get paid for playing for England, and while I'm not sure exactly by whom, I assume it's the Football Association. This will be the same for players that play for any country btw.

I heard Paul Gasgoingne talking about playing for England in 1996, saying that when he'd played for England he was paid £10,000 per match (he claimed he refused the money), but in addition to any money the FA pay a player, they will make more money from endorsements and increasing their own value to a club as for example an established regular England player such as Steven Gerrard, will command a higher wage from his club and advertisers than a new name to the England squad such as Martin Kelly, and both will have a higher value than someone who doesn't play for their country.

Hope that helps...

They do get paid but not anywhere near what their clubs pay them and just read that the England team give the monies to various charities and good causes.

England players donate all their pay for international matches to charity causes via the Team England Footballers Charity, and match fees paid to England's senior players - £750 for a defeat, £1,000 for a draw and £1,500 for a win - have been diverted to a range of good causes over recent seasons.
