Not all that North of North London

That'll help the war on obesity.

And it concerns me that a pub offering clear loss leading promotions to get people in will want to keep people there as long as possible while other pubs seem to be limiting the time people can stay

Warm beer and rancid food we will never darken one of his door steps ever he will make other goods pubs close there doors as who would. Want to even try and compete with him selling his cheap puke food but Yr average English pissheads will help him do it

So you want him to go bust ?

Well that's 40,000 without jobs.

How many of his numerous local suppliers will also lay off people.

Will you all top up the loses of revenue to the UK from your own pockets ?

I'll spend my money how I want to, and if that's by not going to a business that I consider to have acted poorly, that's my prerogative.

Maybe if Wetherspoons don't undercut their competition, more businesses with a better track record with suppliers will survive, and the job situation will be better.

"Won’t be getting any of my money ever again after the way he treated his staff the last few months.

They will be getting my money before il pay more or go out of my way to find somewhere else.

Whatever happend with the staff isn't anyone else's problem. Why make it hard on yourself or for the people who need the jobs there again. "

Finding an independent isn't hard.

Just grap the Neverspoons app.

Weatherspoons is big enough and has enough of a loyal customer base, that it won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

However the UK was loosing loads of better independent pubs every week even before lockdown.

I'd prefer to support these businesses and the staff they employ.

Well this is capitalism at its best, consumers choice. Some companies acted morally in lockdown and others didn't, or at least didn't until they realised people were outraged by their behaviour. So I'll choose to give my money to someone else. Tim can fuck right off.

We all have limits to what actions we can take, and how much energy we can expend. But we're told that we're allowed free choice living in capitalism. Why not on moral grounds?

There’s we’re lots of bad press.

I watched his video (it’s on the Internet) he put out just after the announcement on 20th March.

It seems he was misquoted and lots of people got on the bandwagon of the press.

Staff seem to be happy with their furlough pay and looking forward to earning again.

I’ll still go to wetherspoons as often as I did before (once I actually pluck up the courage to leave the house more than I do!!)

There and to the left a bit

Whilst I'm not a fan of the owner for some of his views, particularly on Brexit - and nor am I particularly a fan of the brand, there's been a lot of misreporting of his actions around lockdown and treatment of his staff - he didn't treat them poorly at all, he actually treated them incredibly fairly!!

If you bothered to follow the facts rather than the tabloids and social media memes, what he actually said was that staff would be laid off/furloughed so that they could continue to work and earn full wages (rather than none or reduced) if they wanted to at places like Tesco that were hiring massively at the time in order to meet the rise in demand for home deliveries etc.

As for his pricing policies, they're no different from any number of other chain retailers, ultimately it's the consumers choice whether they want to pay cheap as chips prices and possibly accept a reduced quality (although it's arguable whether a £1.50 pint of lager tastes any different from a £5 one) or pay more and get a better quality.

I think the interesting thing about Wetherspoons is the staff and Union love that people are protesting and willing to help them, they are asking for customers to continue to use the pubs. Boycotting the pub will hurt the staff long before Martin and his board are affected. They are asking those who support them to sign their petition for better, safer working conditions as they return to work.

Quality PPE available

Door security at all times

Unsafe kitchens closed

No loss of earnings due to Covid

No penalties for not reaching revenue targets

No skeleton staffing

Cashless payment

Full sick pay from day one

Changing the way Martin goes about his business is more their aim. Boycotting them just affects the thousands that are employed by Spoons.

It is also now accepted that Martin actually said if employees were offered a job in a supermarket, he would understand if they wanted to take it. He also did not tell staff that they would not be paid. It is accepted Wetherspoons employees were paid in the usual way for work done up to March 22/23. Furlough payments began on April 3 and continued thereafter.

Good to know some established facts.

I went in a local Wetherspoons yesterday and all the staff there, except one, were new. So what's happened to the pre lockdown ones goodness knows.

On the point of Tim Martin himself, hes been a leading industry campaigner for tax reductions on food and beers plus pushed hard for Brexit. Also the majority of his pubs are refurbished/repurposed buildings, not new builds. One of the main things they're famous for is helping folks get indoor exercise - most of his pubs bogs are up a few flights of stairs!!!

I've always found the grub in there alright, and most ales are good as well.

I'm not a great fan of his at all but I try to get a balanced viewpoint on his efforts in the hospitality industry. I dont know anything about how Wetherspoons suppliers are treated so cant comment, but as a major employer and food/beverage outlet I'm sure all suppliers benefit do eventually from Wetherspoons being their customer.

my own bubble

"Frankie Boyle said "No one in Wetherspoons has anything to celebrate anyway." and I think he's right on the money!

It's the pub for alcoholics and elderly racists."

I use weatherspoons regular as i spend time away from home i am not an alcoholic, or a racist, elderly ? Thats up for debate. I have very rarely seen people d*unk in them ,never seen anyone being racist and there is always a good mix of young and old . I dont understand people slagging them off. Basically they offer good value for money and are well run establishments with an high turnover of customers .!!!! some people can be so up there own ass they can lick their own tonsils , be great if we all had the money to go to the ritz and drink champaigne every night hey ? Get off your high horse and in the real world
