Most lives give meaning to those around us, rather than to oursleves. So you kinda have to ask your neighbours.

Try to. Your calendar should be able to answer this, it doesn’t happen by accident, it’s the time you plan for important people and things

I'm never going to be a rockstar or astronaut or invent something that changes the world, but I've got enough achievements to be proud of and am well liked within my large circle of friends. If I dropped dead tomorrow I would be missed so I guess that's meaningful!

Meaningful mmm difficult to say but I have been happier the past two years than I have been for many a years. Now divorced after many unhappy years in a loveless/sexless marriage.

Money always tight but life is good have my own place with my son who gives my life a meaning so I guess I could say Yes after all.

Good question OP.

I think meaningful is a word which has a different meaning to different people.

What is meaningful to me would possibly not be to someone else or to a different culture.

I do try to make a difference.

I try to change what I can for the better.

I try to be kind and loving.

Ultimately though we are specks on a bigger speck hurtling through Space.

I doubt the Universe gives a fcuk about what we consider meaningful down here.

Does that make it less important tho?

Two sorts of meaning really.

There's the idea that there is a grand plan which gives meaning and there is personal meaning. I generally don't go for the grand plan type of meaning.

I find it weird, odd and slightly funny that we live on a large ball hurtling through what is essentially nothing.

I can't even say the Universe is unforgiving or is anything because that would imply sentience (thus implying grand plan meaning).

It is just is.

"Are you living a meaningful life?"

Question is, what is a meaningful life suppose to look/feel like?

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

Basically just living to bring our kids up and set them loose in the world so they can live their best life possible.

It’s going ok so I guess it’s meaningful!!

If I didn’t have my kids, definitely not. I get up go to work, eat and sleep. At the weekend or days off, I’ll try and fill the time as best as I can but don’t actually do anything that’ll bring anyone else happiness or help.

However when the lads are here, feed them, take to the park, kick a ball either way I’ll see laughter and will receive a hug or two.

Exhausted kids that want to go to bed, means you’ve done something that day.

Yes and no. I'm living a small life, no great acts of heroism, nothing that grabs attention.

I do give money to a couple of charities who do great things with it, who make a massive difference in the lives of a small group of people that ripples out across whole communities.

My life may not be meaningful, but it enables other people to do the meaningful stuff.

At the moment no.

I have stopped and am still - I get up and make sure I breathe in and out and that's enough achievement for one day for now.

I'm taking care of me.

Id like to think I've had a few meaningful little positive impacts on people's lives so if that means mine is meaningful then im happy with that.

Others have left some great long lasting effects on mine and I hope they know they mean a lot to me too

I am indeed.

It surprises me how others suggest I'm not though because *whispers* I am single.

It's sad really that despite everything I have achieved some people judge/define my meaningfulness on my relationship status.

This reply interested me because I've been giving some thought recently. I reckon most parents feel this way, yet don't you think your own parents thought the same, and their parents?

Did you live your best life possible before committing your own lives to your children?

It's funny how we all want the best for our children, yet possible forget about our own lives in the process
