Somewhere In The Ether…

Yes indeedy, list me the worst, most sacrilegious cover versions you’ve heard folks.

I’m throwing in Marc Almond’s cover of Frankie Valley’s, The Night. Eeeee by gum it was not good.

A double shame as I normally love Marc’s tone.

Mind you, he thankfully redeemed himself when he covered Gene Pitney

Off thou go’eth

Cheshire

Do they know it’s Christmas by Band Aid. Not the original but all of the copies afterwards

*edit but if it still helps those in need, I’m not opposed to the gesture

There and to the left a bit

American Pie - Madonna

It's one of those songs that should never be covered (apart from by buskers) and she absolutely murdered it

There and to the left a bit

Uptown Girl - Westlife

Basically a bunch of Irish lads doing karaoke - all the best covers take the original and put a fresh spin on it - this basically copied it

There and to the left a bit

One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks) - One Direction

Not satisfied with dumbing down and murdering one classic new wave song, they did two in one - complete crime against humanity.

Tin town

Any of those that there now seems to be a habit of using on TV adverts, usually but not limited to banks.... Where they take a classic song... Slow it right down, remove guitar bass and drums, and warble vocal octaves up and down doing that back of the throat singing.... The latest of which I noticed was "born to be wild"... Vomit...

Somewhere In The Ether…

I remember a dance version by Hannah And Her Sisters of Simon & Garfunkel’s absolute classic, Bridge Over Troubled Water.

.......it was predictably bloody awful

Somewhere In The Ether…

I’m presently watching a TV show called, The Secrets She Keeps - very engrossing it is to.

The intro song however, is a slowed down cover of Kylie Minogue’s, Can’t Get You Outer My Head.....and is exceptionally shite.

Stockport

Most covers are shite. There are exceptions but the originality and imagination of the song are lost on covers.

Someone mentioned Tainted Love by Soft Cell, I thinks that's one of the few great covers. It brings something different to the song.

"Paloma Faith - Never Tear us Apart."

Now you see personally I loved what she did with it - slowing it down and giving it a female vocal really worked
