Hmmm this is a good one.

Have arranged to go to a club with a friend, hotel booked and then find out the evening is a BBW night.

Not a skinny minx. But do ask the question, when do you 'become' a BBW.

Is there a size, shape?

I personally don't know how big/curvy you have to be to be classed as a bbw, but I think you are not one of them.

I think you look great.

I'm sometimes referred to as a bbw, but I don't think I am either. It doesn't bother me though.

Oooh - NASTY! Now why would you think it was the male making the comment? It was actually me, the wrong side of curvy female.

Anyone with half a brain can see what you're actually doing is fishing for compliments. Pretty much everyone knows what a BBW is and if you're happy you're not one then why get all affronted if some idiot says you are? If someone said you were a giraffe would you come on here asking if your neck was too long?

Maybe I'm just cynical....

But maybe guys on this thread will say 'ooo no you're not a BBW, god perish the thought, have very dare anyone say that you are.

And on another thread they would be bowing down on their knees to worship the bigger girl.

Some men will say anything to get a meet. If you have a vagina they will tell you you're the spitting image of Cheryl Cole.

I also don't really understand why, if you have nothing against BBWs or bigger ladies, you would start a thread surprised that men could dare to call you one.

Personally I couldn't give a shit how men, whom I'm never gonna meet, describe me

Just don't worry about what people say about you. You don't need anyone else to justify what you are. People will come up with all sorts of descriptions, a lot of it is about their own self image problems.

Its not just the men either, there are lots of women who are equally, if not more so, quick to try and knock you down with a snide comment, people are competitive and sometimes feel threatened.

Just ignore these men who say you are BBW, you know the truth

Errr you asked a question on a public forum, you won't always get the answers you are hoping for and there is no need to be nasty when that happens.

If you only want answers to agree with you, you are on the wrong forum as most people on here have their own mind.

BBW only has usefulness as a term when people use it to describe themselves, anyone telling you to use is at best a cheeky fecker, at worst trying to make you feel insecure about your body.

I'm a little confused by this thread.

I personally dislike many of the labels that are used on here especially bbw, I would therefore understand if the Ops point was a blanket dislike for the label, but it appears that the Op is happy to use it to describe other women on here but uncomfortable with it being assigned to her.

I would not call you a bbw because I do not like the term, but I have seen women slimmer than you as well as larger than you class themselves as bbw. In your opening post you yourself profess to not being slim.

The two people you refer to as calling you a bbw this week probably intended no malice and were probably pitching you, if you are comfortable using the label on others why shouldn't they use it on you?

This is a genuine question, I'm not being funny, maybe I'm missing something.

Yes your right to a degree but some of us don't like some of the labels out there. I don't particularly like the label 'bbc' but because I choose to be on here I can't stop people using it as a label for me. That said it doesn't mean I'd choose to use it to describe someone else or start a thread asking others whether I was a bbc or not.

As I said, maybe I'm missing something, but hopefully the Op will clarify.

Hi i agree with black spice...im probably a bit larger than op but i to have been classed as a bbw! I dont like the term as i have seen much larger ladies who have themselves used it! However im not unrealistic to know that i am 'big' or curvy as i like to say! Its a perception that each person has and thats fair enough!! If i hear it...i walk away!!!

Op..u are gorgeous lady...just how a woman should be...surround urself with people who tell u that and sod the rest!

see this is the $100 question

Ask 50 people what size a BBW starts from and you will get several different replies, because whats big is subjectional to what you like

If you like big ladies then a size 20+ maybe what you class as big, if you like slim ladies you will see a size 14/16 as big

I class myself as a BBW, to me im over weight and i have saggy bits so im big

As for if i think your a BBW, thats not my place to comment, if your happy thats all that matters

No one called you fat.. they called you a bbw its only you who _iewed it in the negative light when you put it into context.

big beautiful woman are what the initials stand for but to some its just a tag to simply indicate to men they are curvy with a little more cushion for pushin.

You use it for others and they might like the tag either, so just ignore it if you dont like it

"Yeah you're beautiful, yeah you're not a BBW (god forbid that anyone should have to suffer THAT label), yeah you're sexy ... yadda yadda yadda!

Plus if you saw my comment i think bbw are just as sexy you would realise im not against it far from it but obvioulsy you like to dress up as a woman so what would you know

Get over yourself ffs!

"

Agree the comment was very nasty. When I read the op my initial thought, and nothing she's written since has altered that is someone's fishing for compliments!

so your basing being a BBW on tummy flab? I kinda went for the overall.. bingo wings, double chin, legs, ass, boobs

the OP could be a size 12 with just unflattering pictures, or she could be a 16 and carries it well.

Think there is no definite definition, its just all about how you see yourself and how you as an individual stereotype the label BBW.

not entirely (jesus, people think in such black and white terms on this forum) but tummy flab's certainly a factor, so without seeing that it's hard to estimate.

There's one pic with her tummy, and although she's clothed I wouldn't say Hannah's got a lot of fat on her, and what she does have is carried well.

now off to see what other comments I've made are going to have people jumping down my fucking throat today...

For me, a Lady's dress size isn't what makes her attractive. It's the way she carries herself, her confidence, her personality, her wit, the twinkle in her eye! A woman who says, ''this is me, take it or leave it'', lol! Size is only important when you are looking for clothes as a guide to what item will fit you when you take it into the changing room. I'm a 14, but sometimes I can wear an item marked a 12 (even a 10 once), sometimes I need the 16. It's not the label, it's what it looks like once it's on. And if you look good in (or out of it!!!) then the size is irrelevant. I call myself average on my profile, but some have said I'm athletic. Others have said curvy, 'cos at 46 I DO have curves, lol! I'm just me and their opinion is just that, their opinion. If you don't see yourself as a BBW, then you aren't. I can't really express an opinion about you just from your pics. I'd have to chat with you, meet up, see what you were like in person. It's the whole package, not just the visual.

There is one thing that I do find attractive and that is maturity. And I will say that from some of your replies to other's comments, you have lacked a little of that. I understand you are sensitive about your size, but it's not nice or attractive (regardless of size) to throw nasty comments back at those who are simply expressing an opinion that you asked for. And if you would like my opinion of your size based solely on your pics, I would say 'curvy'.

Thank you for clarifying your position. So basically you infer that using the label bbw is the same as using the word fat, and you state it is a 'bad thing' to be called fat. If in your own head it's a bad thing or negative, why do you use the term in your description of others?

Your living in a house constructed of sand and other minerals that are melted together at very high temperatures (oh it's easier to just say glass) so why do you keep picking up stones?

If you don't like the label then maybe you should consider not adding to it's circulation by using it, especially, by your own admission, in a negative way.

I think any term used can be taken 2 ways. Complimentary, as I would think it was intended or as a slur.

For instance I often use the word Dyke in reference to myself and so do one or 2 members of my Family, but not in an offensive way. But it can also be used as an insult. It's about the context. I don't get offended by the words so much as the intent behind using them.

I often use the word "Chinky" to affectionately describe all things Chinese, and have no issues being called one as such.

People would look at me as if I am from another planet, especially when I launch into one about not liking the cheap quality goods coming out of mainland China, the fake goods such as eggs, medicines, baby milk powder etc., as I am Chinese myself!

I do object to being branded together with China Chinese though, as I was born a Brit and have carried a British passport all my life!

glad you said that cause a couple of times i've wanted to say, if you dont like the way you look do something about it

Thing is its hard to say that without sounding nasty and i dont mean it that way but at the end of the day its hardly rocket science is it?

I am now "overweight" and no longer "obese", after losing nearly one and a half stones since I joined FAB in 2009.

The weight loss had been gradual. I ate less, especially in the evenings, and exercised more by being more active.

No magic formula, and no drug involved.

And neither did NN.

However, both of you were not happy with your weights for whatever reasons and did something about it, rather than to moan and groan about the perceived or real prejudice being directed at you because of your size!

I think the negative aspect of the word fat comes from the fact it's usually tagged with something unpleasant such as 'lazy' or 'ugly'.

The same can't be said of the word slim - in fact it'd probably come with the words 'gorgeous' or 'beautiful' attached so you can't really compare the two when it comes to a factual description of a body size.

Bigger / larger / overweight woman sounds factual. Fat woman just sounds blunt and negative (even if it's true). In my humble opinion anyway

One of the reasons I do not like about my sister is her insistence in name-calling me "fat face" ever since I was a child, because she said it in a mean and nasty way.

At the end of the day, should we HAVE to refer to ourselves as anything?

Can't we just be.....

I know, that's a dream I have, lol!

The word fat has never bothered me, im always saying i got a fat arse. Fat was the only word used to describe someone overweight its only cause people want to see it as negative that they do

Congratulations to those of you who have managed to find your personal routes to success.

You're great role models *applauds* - but please be mindful that some of us haven't found what works for US yet or there may be some who have issues to overcome in order to reach a healthier weight.

Certain comments just might come across as being a tiny bit condescending.

Im a lady of the cloth lol and i would refer to myself as a BBW, but i carry my weight well. I dont have large legs or arms etc..

But i was told by the guys from here to put down curvy when i first joined the site.

I get a lot of body builder types and always have done all my life which for some reason like me!!!

It has it advantages being cuddly, but i would still prefer to be thinner.

Again it's down to perception isn't it as I didn't find anything condescending in any of the posts. On the contrary, I found them inspirational.

Just goes to show.

Not read all of the comments, but looked at your pics and thought HOT BBW....(sorry), think it is because you are a busty lady. Of the comments I did see I don't think there is a specific size=BBW (correct me if I'm wrong)!!!

However please, please don't take my comments as a bad thing, you look gorgeous in the pics that I looked at

Thank you

We all have issues of one kind or another. Things we can be overly sensitive about. I was MUCH larger in my younger days; fat was an apt word for me. A size 28. Ok, I might be 5'10'' and I did carry it ok, but I didn't want to, lol! I still have people comment about it to this day and I have been the size I am now for about 20 years. I used to care what people thought, now I don't. Wish I could have felt like that sooner, but, hey, life is a learning curve.

Only condescending if you choose them to be, ive been overweight all my life. Its how you choice to percieve things. If people want to be in denial then thats up to them.

I too have been overweight all my life and at one stage clinically obese.

However, I accept I am what I am, and make the most of what my maker has given me.

The greatest indignity I had encountered, was for a kindly sales lady in the John Lewis maternity department asking me when I was due, when I was looking for something smart and formal to wear to a wedding, when nothing off the peg fitted in the days when off the peg clothes for the larger sizes were not so common as they are today.

It was in the mid 1990s. And that was the last time I shopped for formal clothes, and had them made for me instead ever since.

Having properly fitted clothes in flattering colours certainly boosted my self-confidence.

When my weight went up, I just have them loosened, or have new ones made, simple!

its not condescending at all

The simple fact is anything is lifes you want is worth fighting for it just depends how bad you want it

Ive suffered all my life with my weight and have weight over 20 stone in the past, its a never ending circle, the bigger you get the more unhappy you are, the more unhappy you are the more you eat, the more you eat the bigger you get...been there, done it its not a nice place to be

I remember getting on the scales at weight watchers many years ago and being told i had 10 stone to loose i went home and cried, i thought how the hell am i going to do that and felt like giving up before i started, but even tho i never got to my goal i did loose 9 stone of it and i have yoyoed ever since, loosing a couple of stone, putting it back on, going back to fat camp and getting it off again, thats just me

Im f**k all special, loosing weight isnt easy, i more than anyone know that, but if you want to do it you will do it, food can be like an addiction and like any addiction you have to really want to do it or it will never happen, you cant wish yourself thin

When i was bigger i used every excuse under the sun for my weight, from illness to medication, heard it all cause ive said it all, cause i felt better people thinking i was fat because i was ill rather than cause i over ate so i know how bad it makes you feel, but the simple fact is if you eat more calories than you burn off you will be over weight, we all know that and if people dont like being over weight theres only one person who can change that....but you have to really want to

If that's true then I want to be a 5ft7, size 8 with 36d boobs, oh and have black hair.

I agree with the above comment.

It's only in the last year that I have come to feel confident about my body. What got me to change how I felt was considering what I might look like when I was say, 80 (if I live that long) and how I would feel then about the body I have now. And I think I would probably love to have the body I have now when I'm 80. So if I could love it then, why not celebrate it now, in the here and now, lol!
