well lock down has given me one thing a push to try them horrible home STI tests (i test monthly for work) and i have to say they are amazing easy to use and soooo simple

no reason at all that all my future meets cant do one haha

it got me to wondering how many people on here get tested every few months when active xx

i am surprised at how many guys email me and when asked have not had one in the last 6 months

I get tested every three months minimum. More often if I deem it necessary.

With all the clinics being closed, I've switched to home testing for now as well. My biggest issue is getting enough blood out of myself to fill the little phial!

Before every new partner, and/or every three months.

ASAP after a new partner if unexpected, and make my excuses not to see anyone else until the results are back, or let them decide for themselves depending.

I use the SH:24 website every 6 weeks. That’s the minimum time they will allow. Results are so fast and the process easy. There really is no excuse not to be tested.

"I find if I hold the finger prick in between my thumb and the finger I wanna prick then I get more that way as Its a firm press x "

Let's put it this way: The last time but one, it took five lancets and another seven incisions with a sterilised scalpel to get enough blood to fill the little phial, and it still took so long that the blood wasn't usable in the end.

I guess I should be thankful that I bleed so little, but it's a massive inconvenience when doing home tests.

how much do they cost?

considering it's lockdown, do people really need to be tested as single people shouldn't be meeting randomers. couples shouldn't need it?

i heard sti cases are on the rise in uk, especially in middle age group

That can happen, yeah.

Try it late in the afternoon, up your water intake and lower your caffeine intake () for the day and do 10mins of cardio before you pop. Run on the spot, or whatever.

I'm slightly anaemic, found it makes a massive difference.

Rochester, Kent

I used one a couple of weeks ago. Easy (and all clear )

Only trouble is, my local health authority don’t support them, and it would’ve cost £34, so I had it sent to a friend’s address

"how much do they cost?"

That depends on where you live and how old you are. Different healthy authorities pay for different levels of testing for different age groups.

Between www.sh.uk and sh24.org.uk I managed to get all my usual screening tests for free.

If one *does* want to pay, www.test.me offers a comprehensive range of tests, including some that aren't offered on the NHS.

"considering it's lockdown, do people really need to be tested as single people shouldn't be meeting randomers. couples shouldn't need it?"

Considering how long STIs can lurk in people's systems undetected, people should be getting tested quarterly minimum, unless they've gone without sexual contact for so long that they have two consecutive clear quarterly tests.

"i heard sti cases are on the rise in uk, especially in middle age group"

Yes, STIs are on the rise in the UK, for all the same reasons that the country is so badly affected by coronavirus: Too many people think they're special and that the health advice doesn't apply to them.

Thanks for the reminder, I put a home test in, just as the Virus kicked off, and never got a result. Will chase it up.

At long last the SHS:24 hometest has become available in our postcode. If you've tried before and told it's not available in your area, try again. My guess is because of covid more money has been pumped into it to avoid people having to attend GUM clinics. Every cloud has a silver lining eh....

Why do you have to test monthly for work? I use the home kits but not recently as not meeting for obvious reasons. They are so much more convenient

I get tested about every 6 months but I don't tend to sleep with a new person more often than that. I'll get tested before a new person so I know my status before and if I think there's been an increased risk for whatever reason or if a sexual partner wants me to.

It is but you have to follow the link to fettle.health, same lab I believe.

Tested every 6 weeks and saves the waiting room at the Gum clinic

Manchester have their own if you follow the link from the sexual health clinic page.

A lot of clinics have changed to home testing throughout lockdown so it’s worth ringing your local clinic to see

I have been using the private home tests for a few years now. As I generally only have one fwb I always test when a relationship finishes.

Touch wood I have only had an STI once in my life when in my early twenties.

I don't live in Manchester itself, but in an extremely large town which is part of GM. We've been a monogamous couple since the end of Feb, so not overly concerned at moment, but obviously will if/when we mingle again.

Recent convert to the home kits. I’ve recently done the free Welsh one but I’ve not heard anything back yet, which I’m trying to not get paranoid over.

I didn’t realise my gag reflex was quite so terrible, unless it’s because I did it myself? But I almost all over the throat cotton bud swipe thing.

And trying to get the blood out of my finger made my sink look like a crime scene.

Not sure of the turnaround times but otherwise was straightforward
