"

Go on then, what's a Parkrun apart from the obvious?"

Organised, timed and free 5km races held in parks across the country. Some of them attracting 100's of runners, standards range from world champion and Olympian Mo Fahrer to people that struggle to beat 40 minutes.

And they all have to be near a cafe so people socialise afterwards rather than just go home.

Started as in idea in a pub (or similar) and now several fulltime staff and corporate sponsers funding it.

I do and i love it.

If you register on the website, you get a unique barcode you can print a off and take with you to the run. That way all your results are tracked and you can go on the website and see all your race results and PB's. They even do a text service, and text you your official time after the run.

Really good fun and great exercise.

Lots of respect to the volunteers as well

Did anyone see parkrun on the news this weekend? 10 years since it started and it's growing all the time.

I bore anyone I meet giingcin about it but I absolutely love my Saturday morning parkrun and I would be where I am now (just registered fir my second ever 10k) if i hadn't have started doing these.

I have made lots of friends (Ahhh) who support, encourage and coach me and make me believe in myself and that it doesn't matter how slow I am, they will wait for me.

I think it's great that the founder of parkrun has been given a cbe. Long live parkrun!!!

just had a fantastic email...i have won the parkrunner of the month award for my local parkrun!!

get to go pick some shiney new running shoes now....i got new road shoes for Christmas so think i am going to get some trail shoes to battle the mud at parkrun.

I really love this movement! not just because of this but because the people involved have kept me on track and plodding along for over a year now....the longest i have ever stuck to anything fitness related. Also, they dont just celebrate the fastest and the fittest as this goes to show!

needed to post it on here as i dont want to spoil the surprise for all my running friends on facebook haha

Happy happy Evie!!

Fantastic! Way to go. Your progress is so inspiring. Now, if I could but be inspired enough to get my own arse off the sofa, I'd be away.

Seriously though, well done. You should be really proud of how far you've come.

Nice one

I've been struggling with an injury since August that's seriously limited my running and now I'm recovering from major surgery, so by the time I get back on it it'll be like starting again from scratch.

Thought if revive an old thread to celebrate running my 100th parkrun yesterday!! And it was my birthday as well

Still totally in live with parkrun and yesterday was made even more special by my dad deciding to run his first (unofficial as he didn't have a barcode) parkrun after years off of running. He has run the London marathon in fairly decent times, London triathlons, tough guys etc and used to try and get me to run when I was younger but I was having none of it!!

He has got the bug now and has been asking lots of questions about it haha

I need to get back into parkrun

its been 2 1/2 years since I last tried it and my pb then was just over 40mins (40.12)

I'm nearly 3 stone heavier at just under 25st. so who knows how long it'll take me to beat the 40mins but im determined to do it this year
