simply in town lower speeds if any more drop off its safer

having been a mechanic/recovery driver

i have seen the damage done by flying bits at speed

one back box had bounced and went half way through the windscreen of the following car

the only purpose of the back box is to silence the exhaust hence its name "silencer"

If its only a hole in the back box and the retaining gaiter is still in place nothing should fly off

No hunny- the whole thing came off.

I had to drive back up the road and pick it up - its the whole box

But i did have a look at it (to a girly eye) and the joint IS well corroded - which i am suprised at as only got the back box and middle pipe about 2 years ago.

Front box was replaced last year after damaging it and even had to replace LAM sensor etc as was welded in. So am sure the rest of the exhaust is ok - its just that both at home and at work, i have to go up kerb, ramp etc, so it does take a wee bit of a battering - not sure if thats why its corroded or not tho......knowing nothing about cars or their bits.

So is anything actually dragging on the ground? if so then NO its NOT safe to drive and shouldn't be on ANY road
