Rakes

Up here the word rakes is commonly used to mean lots. I didn’t realise this was a regional thing until recently, when I mentioned “rakes of people” while texting an English friend, who had never heard the word being used like that before.

I’ve no idea if this is a whole of Scotland thing or specific to the Highlands. Does anyone else use the word rakes in this way?

Or do you use any words you didn’t realise were regional until speaking to someone from another area?
