As a proud northerner, when I am looking at local ladies, I see lasses from the “Midlands” as near 35 miles away. This is impossible as I am in North Yorkshire. Now you can call me a pedantic git, but where for you does the midlands end and the north start?

This is just a fun minor debate. Nothing serious by the way.

Difficult one to call, I live in Northamptonshire which in most books is in the East Midlands but Fab have us in the West Midlands, added to which the Fab distance chart is in need of an overhaul.

In answer to your question if you are a Southerner then anything north of Watford makes you a Northerner

Well, East Midlands ends at Lowestoft on the Fab map so Midlands in general.... anywhere from Dover to Gretna Green I would imagine

Anything north of the M4 is the Midlands. Then it sort-of fades out again somewhere along the M6

I am just over an hour south of Liverpool and my area is classed as West Midlands.

I count anything above Manchester to be Northern.

It is an established fact that everything outside London, is not in the UK.

We are all northern monkeys to cockneys even if you live on the south coast.

The fab regional system is rather mental. OP next time you are on the road use the 'who is near me' function and see where it puts you. If you find yourself listed as being in Mordor then welcome to Wales

According to Wikipedia these counties are the Midlands:

Derbyshire

Leicestershire

Northamptonshire

Herefordshire

Lincolnshire

Nottinghamshire

Rutland

Shropshire

Staffordshire

Warwickshire

Worcestershire

So anything south of this block is The South, north is The North and west is Wales.

Go to book a holiday online and Sheffield/Doncaster airport is classed as Midlands! So the Midlands is gradually taking over the whole country

Yes I,d agree the Midlands ends where south yorkshire begins If you were to watch midlands today on tv derbyshire would come under the east midlands but I,ve also seen them come under the north midlands thou I,d suggest the further north you live in derbyshire the more you,d come under the north midlands say from the peak district up.

Im Midlands so any town I don't recognise or havnt been too is exotic and up North, or down South etc. I have never been East bizarrely. So Birmingham and Worcester is Midlands for me, if you're not there you're Nothern

I’m just an hour from Liverpool and 35 mins away from manc .. we are classed as north midland but in the West Midlands venturing to the East Midlands ... piece of piss to work out

It's a bit like those adverts for mobile phone network coverage '99% of the UK' etc, it depends how the people move. Realistically, Near Derby is a good start as Chesterfield has good northern credentials, as have some parts of Staffordshire.Mercia was a leading kingdom and I think the language/accent was adopted as standard English. It befits the centre of the country, the Midlands.

South is the lower Midlands.
