Just watched "A Quiet Place" and been reminded how much I enjoy watching a really tense, suspenseful, scary movie.

Which movies to be watched behind a cushion do you recommend for my watch list?

London/Essex... ish... Romford to be exact

Not a new film, but having watched almost every main horror release in recent years, Sinister is genuinely creepy.

Again, not new but The Babadook is another recommendation. The horror is always lurking in the background. There is a sense of tension which never really relents. Even during scenes away from the horror, you feel the protagonist's descent and exhaustion.

Finally, Hereditary. This is the newest horror I can recommend. I haven't seen it since it came out and cannot recall the whole story but do remember being impressed by it. I might give it another watch soon.

I'd be interested to hear your feedback on my recommendations.

I will, thanks...

Netflix et al remains the best way to spend an evening during lockdown and I've got new titles to search out now.

I have found it hard to find good horrors now days. I watched Annabelle on sky movies last week - rubbish.

The old Amativile film was good

.

Midsommar! Same director as Hereditary but set in Sweden and bonus points if you can guess when.

I also really loved The Witch - the slowly building menace and dread is terrifying. In a similar vein, I really enjoyed The House of the Devil.

Not a film, but have you watched ‘The haunting of Hill House’?

I was about to say The Witch! Fantastic film. It's pure tension.

Hereditary is my favourite horror film of the past few years, I may rewatch it now that I know what's going on. Midsommer is great as well.

Exorcist III. One of the greatest terror / suspense films ever made. Stellar acting from George C. Scott and Brad Dourif. All accomplished with virtually no gore.

Good: I like tension, not gore.

'Hereditary' was sufficiently creepy; Joni Mitchell at the end was a nice touch!

Listening to Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo, a recommendation popped up of a Japanese film called Onibaba. It is from the sixties but I think that actually goes in favour of it as I think older films work more to give a psychological experience. And needless to say, Japanese have some twisted minds. Sometimes they work, sometimes they try too hard. Anyway, who's in? I've got spare cushions.
