If we're talking for a trip away. Wales has amazing places, as does Scotland. A lot of forests and national parks in the south are ridable. Most area's will have a local riding group (some linked to your local bike shop if you're struggling to find some)

Hows the condition of the trail there? haven't been for years. I remember when it newly opened with virgin trails, then too many braking bumps appeared

New Forest - All over but Frogham to Fritham a nice yomp.

Bike trails - QE Country park south of Petersfield. Helmets & nerve deffo required on some runs!

North west dweller here, we're spoilt for choice if you like epic wild rides - Pennines, Trough of Bowland, Lake District. I'm close to Gisburn Forest for trail-centreish riding and I head up to Scotland every now and again - Glentress, Innerleithen... More of a roady nowadays but still like to get muddy once in a while

Iv walked climbed most and mountain biked whinlatter a d grisedale which is a hidden gem so many off piste trails mud and rock

We are incredibly fortunate to live where we do. South Wales boasts some excellent mountain bike tracks and for waking we are 20 minute drive from either the Gower or the Brecon Beacons. We both love North Wales too (hope to live there sometime in the not too distant future) and I (mr) particularly love Scotland. I've not done any MTB up there but the walking and mountaineering is fantastic.

I do lots of mtbing and the Forest of Dean is amazing for both biking and hiking, and very beautiful as well especially if take a trip down the river wye in a canoe with plenty of beaches to stop and sun yourself on the river bank ??

I do a LOT of mountain biking. Just moved to London from the Wye Valley, so it was Cwmcarn, BPW, Forest of Dean.

Not much in London, but Aston Hill is ok

I took up backpacking after running. The National Trails are a good start. Many allow bikes on some sections. With YHA hostels and campsites it's an affordable way to get about. Some locations can only be reached on foot. Also you meet great folk and helpful locals along the way. Coming across Nuffield church one morning was just right, as they leave out tea, biscuits and real cake for walkers. Donation accepted.

some great places I find are Snowdonia or the Highlands. Glen Coe is amazing. Forests would be Forest of Dean and recently Hartshill but this is tiny. You should try Malvern Hills not too far from your neck of the woods

And les arc... I tried sking their but the whole time I just wanted my enduro and soem snow studded tires

Mallorca and Cyprus also has great trails and some nice routes for roadies

I'd rent a bike their its not worth the hassle of bringing your own or watching the baggage handles lob your £2k+ bike around like it's a sack of potatoes

Don't know anywhere in the south or Cambridge it’s all a bit flat but this way the Peak District is vast and ideal for bike trails and hiking / peaks. Favourites are Edale/Kinder scout, Castleton, high peak trail, tissington trail, ladybower and Derwent reservoir, Winn hill , Mam Tor and Derwent edge. The Y3P loop in Yorkshire is also good - 26 miles and good for hiking and mostly cycleable, apart from the 3rd peak , closer to here is Sherwood pines a mix of graded bike trails.

Hiking I like the North York moors, Peak District, Malham Cove, Roseberry topping, Otterburn, places like that. For biking Dalby Forest is the closest to me, it's good up there, plenty of challenge on the black route and some fun downhills.

Cycled the sea to sea (c2c) last year from Whitehaven to Newcastle. Did in 24 hours on MTB and took the off road sections. It’s a really good and well signed route and would definitely recommend doing over 3-4 days and b&b especially around Keswick and Penrith it’s beautiful. There’s only really one challenging hill, Hart-side hill the rest is fairly easy going and you can avoid off road sections and use a road or hybrid bike if you prefer.

I very much aim to go to out of the way spots at less busy times. Saw two people all day on my last walk in Snowdonia.

Places like Pen-y-Fan and Snowdon get crazily busy these days. I’ve seen a great sticker that says - “It’s Pen-y-Fan, not Everest...even your nan could climb it” .

We both love North Wales too (hope to live there sometime in the not too distant future) and I (mr) particularly love Scotland. I agree - underrated actually. People rightly adore the Gower and Pembrokeshire, but it’s a special stretch in its own right.

I’ve actually fallen more and more in love with the remote bits of Mid Wales in recent times. There a real sense of space and wildness there.

Cannock Chase used to be close for me.....and has a whole range of MTB runs....and it is free. Something for the novice..... through to the more advanced. Would love to do some dirty off road riding with you (if you fancied a spin and company).
