Internet b/g is quite addictive (as are many other games), some days you seem to go for hours before you (sorry, the computer) lets you win a game. grrr

Been meaning to post this for ages, do you play & any thoughts please.

Know what you mean, I have days, weeks where I am not bothered at all, mainly because I am busy otherwise and/ or being sociable outside the scene or whatever. Other days (especially rainy miserable ones...) I can easily get hooked on here...

I play quite a lot of Backgammon on-line, but only because I can't find a decent on-line Chess game..........

Have tried online chess but very few appeal to me, so generally revert to backgammon. I prefer speed playing and get so frustrated when playing Turkish beginners who take forever to make even the simplest of moves

I play backgammon online quite alot as it causes too many arguments if Mr B and I play it properly....he always accuses me of trying to cheat.

Some other games I play online are spider solitaire, farkle and mahjong.

People who play at normal speed, then when they think that they might be losing, disappear from the face of God's planet.

Either play or quit surely?

I think that's a way not to quit. Most Chess sites (or other game sites for people who are any good) penalise you for quiting (knock points off your rating etc)....... If a person dissapears and there is no move for an hour, say, the opponent is likely to just quit.......

Played Yahoo Pool online for a while though and clocked up over 8,000 games.

On the rare occasion i have a game of online Backgammon the thing that really pisses me off are those people determined to "knock a piece off" at every opportunity rather than try gain a strong position or knock off at an opportune moment. Not being an on-line quitter you just have to bear with it.

Prefer "Scabby Queen" with decent players.

It usually gives me doubles that I can't bloody use, when it's 50/50 I can't get back on for at least a couple of goes while they always do then generally manage to knock me off again. Grrr

It's quite simple really, obviously dice based, so there can be a lot of luck (or unluck) involved, but I spend hours playing

Omg I love Backgammon, and spent far too many hours playing it at uni. Since leaving I have never found anyone who knows how to use the doubling dice, which rather makes the game a bit pedestrian.

(We used to play a penny a point, and while many games would be played for 64 or even 128 points, with Mrs ddc I generally win all 8 games with a total score of 8 )

I've tried the online games, but how many times can you think "Do I accept the double? Of course, the only way you can win is if you happen to throw a double 6, and the chances of that.... oh, you just did, now there's a surprise..." without feeling a tad jaded

Mr ddc

apparently this is a fact. More money is won and lost on a backgammon board, than any other form of gambling including roulette and poker. All down to the doubling cube.....

Do you pip count when you play?

I have taken a lot of money from a lot of people over the years playing backgammon in Vegas casinos, it is not really gambling it is like bridge, if you know how to play and understand the game you will always come out on top if playing against someone who does not understand the game.

Not as such, mainly because I tend to play a strategy of building a prime on my outer board, while allowing myself to be hit early on. This encourages an opponent to accept doubles and redouble as the pip-count gives the impression that they are massively in front. Only in the end-play, once he is no longer trapped, and it becomes a running game, is the pip count really relevant, and by then it is normally obvious, or simply down to them being lucky enough to throw 2 doubles in succession.

There's a few on eBay too. I just have a faux-leather case, but it does mean we used to be able to take it everywhere

Yeah, I've seen some good ones on eBay, but the ones that take my fancy seem to go for much more than I can afford
