"The way we see it,John Wayne just played John Wayne in every film he did. Which is probably why it took him so long to get an award. We're not saying his films weren't enjoyable, just that he wasn't a sparkling character actor. Most of his films were probably written around his style of acting rather than him having to adapt to or take on a role. The centurion at the foot of the cross perfectly illustrates our point! XXXX" You mean he's Hugh Grant with a Peacemaker?

"I'm surprised no-one's mentioned The Searchers - that's a bloody brilliant fillum.. whether you like Westerns or not, whether you like Wayne or not, it's a classic!!" IMHO, that is one of his best films, very dark and emotional, not the usual gun-ho type of characters he normally played
