Wasn’t there a company that owned the Trafford centre before intu? It will be bought by someone else because it’s always busy when I go

They were looking for a bailout before COVID. It’s a shame but you could see shops closing before Christmas

Peel holdings may well buy it back off the administrators.

It will need to adapt, and that requires cash. There won't be much of that around for a while.

Stockport

If it closes it will be good for the local town centres...

Didsbury

Rents and rates are extortionate especially for the low footfall it now has compared to when it first opened. People's shopping habits have changed and most tend to shop local now.

Newcastle and Gateshead

"Intu the owners own a few complexes around the country are they in trouble?"

there is talk they they could go into administration..... basically a lot of the shop owners haven't paid rents due to Covid.... and there was suppose to be some sort of restructure with the banks but thats gone belly up...

the places they own in the north east are Eldon Square in Newcastle... and the Metrocentre in Gateshead

The whole intu business in to administration. With a lot of stores not planning opening back up the future for shopping centres is looking as bleak as most other business, apart from perspex screen fitters and ppe manufacturers haha

We all know online shopping is killing the bricks and mortar store. There is still a place for these centres and stores, but something has to be done about rents and rates. I don't get the rent side as is it better to have an empty store or a low paying rent store occupied. I know there is a threshold to it being economically viable but the rent should be to the value of a place, and right now the value of a store is very low as there is zero competion for stores and shops. It's a debate for another time though.
