They left over 20 tons of rubbish on the beach. Who in their right mind leaves rubbish on a beach.? If you brought it with you take it home.

I know this makes me Seem like an old fart but it really pisses me off.

There must be a link between throwing rubbish and ignoring sensible health guidelines?

People in the UK are still not ready to be given responsibility regarding safety over Covid 19 & better education is needed, it's fine for Boris to tell people they can go to the beach but don't he think people live there & all these masses increase the chances of catching Covid massively.

They should do the beaches here in the UK like France by booking a slot & if people don't want this shut them completely until the threat is over.

The lack of social distancing aside the garbage left is beyond a joke....hope the traffic wardens had a field day issuing tickets...one way of hitting the idiots hard .also one way of tracking who was there..its not hard to take your rubbish back with you...

Social distancing was being observed on the beaches here yesterday but the road to Camber Sands had to be closed because so many people were using it.

It was hot, people have had three months of being told to stay at home, they're bored, frustrated and fed up, of course they're going to descend on the beach. As far as the rubbish is concerned that's nothing new, our beaches have rubbish left on them every summer. In fact people leave rubbish every where, they chuck it out of car windows, leave it in woodland, countryside, parks and drop it in the street.

I don't have an answer for this I'm afraid but it's probably never going to change

You're not an old fart seb, you are 100% right. The link is selfishness and entitlement... Its always somebody else's fault, somebody else's job to sort out the problems. And a lack of enforcement. We have been dancing round this for too long and it is to nobodies benefit.

The people that litter just don't care. They are lazy and slobs and they can't be bothered. They don't want to carry it around or follow the rules. They probably live in a dump. I wish they could be fined heavily and if they refuse to pay, stick them in jail. We only have one planet

Agree. Where my mum lives they closed the roads into the village this week, residents only. This followed an influx of people visiting the beach even though the car parks are closed. So instead they parked where they liked, blocked roads; a driveway with an ambulance in it; a local had a heart attack whilst out for his daily walk on the beach and the ambulance couldn’t get to him because of the cars blocking entrances, so the air ambulance had to come pick him off the brakes h and deliver him to the ambulance.

People just don’t think and only think of themselves

People are told they can go to the beach but toilets are shut & rubbish collections on beach area's are non existent then the government wonder why this as happened, it's crazy in the first place to have this amount of people allowed into a town but to stop the facilities needed for large crowds is a big fuck up by councils & local government & both have lessons to learn.

I think that individuals can't see that they're part of the bigger problem. It's OK for me to go to the beach but all these other people shouldn't be here kind of mentality. The same with the rubbish, my beer can won't hurt not thinking that 10,000 other people are thinking the same

I've seen posts everywhere, all over social media and the news That people are leaving beauty spots and beaches in a disgusting state.

I know litter has always been a problem but it seems to be so much worse at the moment and I just don't know why.

Just a thought on the increase of other anti social behaviours such as fighting, d*unkenness and littering that’s associated with this.

By definition I believe that most people at these gatherings have lower degrees of social responsibility in the first place to consider going. Therefore the level of social responsibility for taking your litter home or behaving responsibly when you’re there drops accordingly

I read yesterday that a family had driven down from Birmingham to a beach 4 hours away then left after a hour as it was so packed they didn’t feel safe.I know not everyone is lucky enough to live near a beach but surely these people can see that they are part of the problem....

There have been people driving to West Wales from London for weeks!

Preposterous excuses such as "someone in government broke the rules" seem to suggest that personal responsibility is something you do when it suits.

But its nothing new as has already been said. I'm glad I'm leaving !

The heatwave was and is expected. If the government are that concerned they could have closed the beaches. A park near me has taken all litterbins away to encourage people to take their litter home. I see it as a cost saving measure. With fortnightly bin collections at home no wonder people leave litter anywhere.

I won't leave litter but I can understand why they don't. I have seen beaches abroad cleaned by machine. I suppose it creates jobs. Take away the bins or empty them less often. Public services a joke. Most seaside shops and takeaways used to have litter bins outside them. Few and far between now.It costs the shops to get rid of the waste

Next town from me has a bathing section along the river. Yesterday there was well over a thousand people crammed on the field trying to use it. Rubbish everywhere and parking across local residents drive ways. They even filled up all the spaces at the old people’s home nearby. Police called to break up fights.

I know people have had a hard lockdown but that doesn’t mean behave like animals.
