FabSwingers.com forum: How serious?

How seriously do people take this site, particularly its forums, the posts, the comments? We’ve seen a lot of threads lately where people seem really invested in an argument or what’s going on with everybody else.

For us this is a fun space to make friends and share conversation with likeminded people, but it couldn’t be further from our real lives and how we live day to day. We are stakeholders in a mental health facility and social media is becoming a huge factor, specifically with lockdown. Just wondering how big a part a lifestyle specific site plays in comparison to the usual culprits of Facebook and instagram.

I think, unpopularly, the forum IS life for a lot of folk and it's also addictive.... add sex, jealousy, anxiety, insecurity and BOOM a big sticky mess of emotions.....

If someone/thing annoys me on here it usually takes no more than an hour or 2 to get over it.

This does not reflect or impact my personal life and I see "Ivy" as no more than an alter ego

Think you’re onto something Ivy, for us this is a side that we can’t be in “real” life, so this is a different kind of escape, and fun. We don’t go to a club to discuss politics or our business’s so we wouldn’t get caught up in that here. Unless we’re friends in which case you get the real us, but that’s in person and away from here.

Sometimes it seems a high percentage of the single people on here are far too emotionally invested. Many times it's guys who join thinking this will be a key to a harem, but when reality dawns, then posts, comments and messages turn sour. Lots of single women join for fun at first and enjoy the confidence boost it can bring but soon along with the compliments comes the abusive messages composed to hurt and degrade. So much frustration is evident in threads, especially when someone ( quite possibly in mental distress ) post something reprehensible and is savaged like a seal in a shark tank.

This site is great if you've got a healthy handle on it and see it as fun escapism and/or a useful app to meet like-minded people. I think once it becomes a place where someone comes to expect from it a sex life / social life or validation, then it's impacting their reality and their engagement with the real world.

As far as im concerned there is no wrong or right way to use fab or the forms as long as its within the rules.

For some it's a community, For others it's a dating site, Many use it just for hookups or as part of a swinging lifestyle. That's the great thing about fab because it can be whatever you want it to be.

I actually think that for many the forums particularly and the chats that often come off the back of that have been a bit of a lifeline for many during lockdown.

I don't use Facebook, instagram or any other social media.

The forum for me is a bit if fun. Over time I have become invested in some people. I may not even have met them or message often but you get to know people a little and begin to care.

If they are in need, or I am in need of a bit of support, or just having a bad day then it's a great place to share how you are feeling. Share the excitement and good times also. Our lovely forumites will offer advice or just listen which is sometimes all you need.

For those that don't that's cool also.

People obviously have differing opinions and yes it can get heated, I don't see that as a problem. To debate is fine but to get personal that's an issue for me.

I like to think of us here as a little fabulous community

I find myself ,to ma more reflective shame , in the heat of a run of hot msgs , in an attempt to be "sassy" , caught up in the deedee role...etc, sometimes forgetting the wee avatar/photo sending wank gear is an actual real person n not( just!) some means to ma sticky end ...ah reckon the "me" on this site is mostly a composite of various sexual interests/obsessions/attractions ...maybe an aspect of maself rather than any indicator of a fundamental "real" me ( whoever that might be or whatever that really means haha!) ...

Unfortunately social media gives a voice to keyboard warriors

You know the ones that delight in being argumentative, even nasty bully tactics

The good side however is that people can find friends, love or just plain sex lol

Social media does play a massive part in all our lives it’s just down to us how well we choose to use it

I'm stuck at home by myself at the moment so I use Fab to chat to people and talk bollocks on the forums.

Before the apocalypse I used it to chat bollocks and have the occasional shag

I dont take it all too seriously but Id miss it if I didnt have it.

This joint , for me anyway,is a place where l can land in and just chill out and see what's happening ,l certainly am not interested in confrontation on any level, if it ain't fun l'm not interested ,no one should have the fun element taken out of being here , people should look forward to logging on and not be worried about others bringing stress or hassle into their lives through posts on forums or PM's...this joint should be all about FUN ...for everyone..

Some great answers on here, and even with different levels of investment seems everybody is in agreement that we’re all here for a bit of fun. It is hard to remember sometimes that some people may be taking it a lot more seriously and to heart than others, and that’s fine. But along with that it’s more important than ever that we’re all just nice to each other.

Some things irk me briefly, make me eye roll or touch me positively. But I will never let it get in my head again like I used to in early days. That comes though with having grown in confidence and sorting some aspects of my outside of fab life.

If I find it even slightly overwhelming because of others negativity, then I step away and dial down usage. Build up the walls again and return for flirty fun, photo challenges and a bit of reflection. Sometimes you cant help how you feel, so wouldnt judge anyone for it. But you control how you react and if you dont, it's good to work on it.

I don't think I take it seriously. I learned that lesson thoroughly. It's a place where I gather virtually with people I've met or people I like to read the thoughts of. Play silly games and get my baps out on Tuesdays. I just potter around when the whim takes me. I'm glad it's here

I generally use the forum for fun, I enjoy harmless flirting, games and challenges.

I have got to know a few people through the forum, and have built some lovely friendships.

I’ve also had forum friendships lead to meets.

I can be insecure occasionally, but the forum sometimes triggers this, and gives me an opportunity to examine whatever arises

Ill confess, endless rate the profile above, what sexual act do you prefer etc etc threads get a little tedious for me, so I do like to get involved in the odd debate if I think its serious.

Though ill concede, some people do appear to be on a mission to convert you to their way of thinking, and forget that this is an Internet forum full of people you're unlikely to ever meet.

I don't take fab or the fora seriously on a personal level but some people do and that's OK.

I think your experience of fab and more particularly the fora very much depends your attractiveness, gender and how you present yourself. There is a tendency toward mob mentality and you have to be quite thick skinned if you fall foul of that.

I think it's worth remembering that some people are vulnerable, do take things very seriously and might not be as emotionally equipped as others to deal with "robust teasing" or aggressive argument.

I do get mildly meh by some of the crap spouted at me/posted but nowadays this place means far less to me than it used to.

I agree with what's been said. I also think that people sometimes forget that others have real relationships, real friendships with those on the fora and of course they can be played out on here. Sometimes the fallouts carry them through on here.

It's obvious when the fora means a lot to someone and that is okay, as long as it doesn't create unhealthy, unpleasant experiences for others. It's for everyone to enjoy, whether that's dipping in and out of or using to socialise/fill a void.

I don’t think social media is good for mental health, no ones going to be saying they wish they spent more time online in their final moments, the things you will remember are the times you spent with friends and facility and sharing them in exotic locations. I think it’s sad that people spend so much time online, but at the same time it can be a help if they feel they can’t share things with the people in their life.

A couple of weeks ago I did a video on here about mental health I have suffered with depression and I have had a lot of setbacks in my life to post it on social media you do get the odd person who tells you to grow up. Then you get that one person that tells you to jump for it , there are some decent people in this world and there are absolute pain in the backside in this world

Our every day life is far removed from this place, and whilst we act the same online as we do in person we tend to engage in light hearted conversation on here rather than anything too serious or day to day.

I'm glad there are other people on here who feel the same - I think it's quite nice to have a 'kinky pen friend' - someone who you're not necessarily ever planning to meet, but who you can just chat to and develop a friendship with.

It is sometimes frustrating that you can't message someone if you're outside of their age range. I completely understand why, but there are a few women on here who seem to share my sense of humour, but I'm too old to be able to contact them directly. But given the amount of rubbish that women must have to put up with on here, it's probably a good thing!

I joined Fab specifically to become depressed by the appalling grammar and spelling displayed herein. In fact, I'm not satisfied until there's steam coming out of my ears as I pen a strongly worded missive to The Telegraph decrying the declining standards of education in this country.
