One particular guy stands out here...

First meet was just before Valentine’s Day... we met for lunch at Nando’s & he turned up with a dozen red roses

On our second meet... the not social meet... we booked a day room at a hotel and he brought a picnic which he laid out on the bed!

Was a brilliant day! Can’t wait to see him again soon x

I think a personal touch is lovely, like a book. It shows they have been interested enough to really listen to your interests. But this is not necessary or expected. I do understand that feeling of someone being too nice and that would make me feel uncomfortable.
