Veterinary care is expensive. There is no nhs for animals and vet care fees are very similar to the costs for private medical care for humans. A state of the art animal hospital can cost half a million to equip, that equipment and the expertise of the person using it has to be paid for in our bill. More people are insuring their animals which means more claims and then higher prices for cover.

Think yourself lucky that you have got insurance. Our diabetic cat is not insurable and in the last 2 years has cost us 12 grand in vet bills!

Oh and I forgot to add that 20% of your vets bill goes straight into the coffers of the treasury!

I have 2 dogs. I stopped the insurace for one when he turned 12 due to the cost. I will care for him myself with TLC and would not want him operated on if he became unwell. He has had a great, happy life and if need be he will get put to sleep but i dread that day.
